Hello everyone, I posted a messenge a little while ago, wondering about the neighborhood GreenLeaf Condos. I thank you with the replies. However,I am a little confused. When I called the police about stats about crime in that neighborhood. I was very surprised to hear that there were alot of robberies, car break in's, assults and even a rape. Which is totally different than the posts I got online. Any ideas why that could be? Many thanks to those who do reply to this post. I just want to know the neighborhood before buying property in there.

Actually, Greenleaf sits right behind a rather rough area, and I wonder if that has anything to do with it. Does anyone else know? I'd be careful about buying there, though. I'd rent anywhere first before buying. You might not like the area, and thenm you'd probably have trouble selling. Greenleaf would probably be hard to sell in, because they are all condos and from what I hear, condos get hit first in the housing market. Although, I am not an expert. That is just what an expert told me.

I do not know the area. I wonder if you could call the police station and find out for sure? I was surprised when I moved to GVille that the crime rate was higher than I would have thought/expected for such a pretty /small town. We have not had any issues-knock on wood.

Visit www.greenleafhoa.com and look for the Archived Minutes. In the minutes for March 10, 2008 the first item is a report from ASO Deputy Shawn Pagel detailing all crime and calls for Green Leaf for the past year. It's not pretty but it's not as bad as other areas.
I agree about renting first in an area. If it's possible for you to do that before buying, at least that way you can try out an area before you commit yourself to buying. A few years ago we rented a house off of NW 6th Street...what a mistake! We thought because it was a few blocks from the Gainesville Police Dept. it shouldn't be too bad...boy, were we wrong Lisa Morales |

Sorry, on the Green Leaf website, click on HOA Meeting Minutes, and then on Archived Minutes to see the security report.

Don't wan't to step on any toes out there, but I wouldn't live there.
It use to be a real nice place but not now. I have lived here for 20 years and maybe 12 years ago it would be okay. Brandy's Proud Mom 1981 / 2007 She will live in my heart forever |

I have friends who live in there and like it but the neighborhood right before it (can't think of its name) I used to live there is it is very rough. High crime, lots of free government housing, and people out at all hours. It's a shame because it's right next to the park which is an awesome location so I hope it gets cleaned up soon but you might be seeing some crime transfer from that neighborhood.

I lived in Greenleaf for all of two months until someone got robbed at gunpoint visiting my roommate at my front door. I think the neighborhood itself is fine but its the bad neighborhood next to it. They come into Greenleaf for their victims.

My husband and I looked in there too a year or two ago when our realtor told us it was improving, but it's still kind of scary looking. It's always had a poor reputation, the buildings are kind of ugly and the streets seem littered. I wouldn't do it. We ended up buying a 3/1 house in NE Gainesville for less than that condo would have cost, and it's in a nice quiet family neighborhood.

Hi, this is ghenier who first posted the messenge about GreenLeaf Condos. I am glad to hear the truth. I did end up buying a wonderful all brick house, 2/1 with a single car gagage in the Ashely Oaks Subdivison for $95,000. in Hawthorne. It is a great house, huge yard and only 20 minutes to Shands Hosptial. I saw what Gainesville had to offer in the $115,000 and it wasn't pretty. I had been priced out of the area but loved what I ended up with. I will be closing on the house the end of this month. Many thanks,

Congrats on your new home!
The neighborhood next to/in front of Green Leaf is Tower Villages. I agree....yuck. The Green Leaf HOA is looking for new board members and my hubby is going to run, in hopes that improvements can be made to the neighbhorhood. Would anyone mind if we share some of the comments about Green Leaf that have been posted here? I can black out your names and any identifying information but I think it would be a real eye-opener to the HOA to know what people really think of Green Leaf. Thank you. Lisa Morales |
