1 can cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pineapple
1 box butter flavored yellow cake mix
1 stick butter or margarine
1 cup shredded coconut
1/2 cup chopped pecans

In a 9x13 inch glass casserole dish mix together cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple. Sprinkle entire box of cake mix over fruit careful not to have any big lumps. Melt butter/margarine and drizzle over cake mix. Sprinkle coconut and nuts over entire cake. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.

This sounds fantastic, but I can't stand any kind of fruit pie filling. Can you suggest a substitution?

This sounds really good! Except my hubby can't stand coconut or nuts. Any idea how it would be without those ingredients? I suppose I could just sprinkle coconut and nuts on half the cake so I don't have to miss out!

I have made this myself, except I used blueberry pie filling and it is excellent. Great recipe!!

Stacy, I make this all the time without the coconut and the nuts and it is REALLY yummy that way too...especially kind of warm with cool whip on top...but it is also god cold as well. I always get asked for this recipe.

looks like this recipe is a hit so far
yeppers u can use any fruit whether it be canned pie filling or fresh/cooked as for coconut? just opt out on it as well as no nuts
add ingredients that u like in cakes or take some out - the sky is the limit
my mom made this last yr for xmas eve but with peaches only & no nuts - it was a HIT & we all ate it, left the traditional holiday desserts for xmas day

Dump cakes rock for last minute desserts if you run out or have drop by visitors too! We've never used the coconut and nuts, but all recipes should be played with to find your favorite 'twists'.

Caryn - how can you not like fruit pie filling??? I know, same as I don't like cinnamon.... just yankin yer chain Big Grin
