So, I didn't get one for Christmas but I think I'm gonna go buy one anyway. I used to have one that I used only for the occasional pot roast, but it was old old old and died. I heard there are lots of convenient things you can cook easily and want to try.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a particular brand? What about a good slow cooker recipe book?

I actually got a recipe box that was filled with crockpot recipes for Christmas. What kind of stuff in particular are you looking for? I could look through and post a few.

I use allrecipes.com for all of my recipes. It's just easier for me. They have a lot of good recipes on there.

I use ours a lot. I cook Pork Chops with mushroom soup, spaghetti, chili and various other things. I love it!

I've had my Rival crockpot for 4 years now and haven't had any trouble. I wonder if you can get digital ones that will shut itself off though? Mine just has Low, High and Warm.

OOOOH... allrecipes.com. I love that site.

If you're into it, search Slow Cooker Taco Soup. It is DELISH! and it makes about enough to feed an army and freezes beautifully.

And the Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast. Another yummy dish, and if you have leftovers, you can cut it into chunks, add sour cream, serve over egg noodles and you have stroganoff.

I love my slow cooker! I used it today for bbq chicken sandwiches that we had for dinner. I just cooked some boneless skinless chicken on low until it was cooked through, then drained and shredded it and added some Sweet Baby Ray's bbq sauce and served on buns. I also cook chicken for my enchilada recipe. We also use it to heat nacho cheese and have nachos for dinner with all the toppings.

I love the fact that you can throw dinner in there during the day while you still have energy and when it's dinnertime you're all ready!

I'm another allrecipes.com fan!

We had a crock pot we got as a wedding gift and it died about 3 months ago. Mind you we just had the 8 year anniversary so it had a good run. I used it more frequently in the last 4 years, unless you count using it to keep meatballs, lil smokies in BBQ sauce or nacho cheese warm an official "use" and then it was every Gator football game.

I did get a nice new crock pot for Christmas, its got bells and whistles and a lock down lid (I guess in case your food tries to escape), it is digital and does go to automatic 'keep warm" if you run late; but since my other one died, I got out of the habit of using one and the new one is still in its box, under the DR table out of the way. I took over the storage space for the old one with some pretty serving dishes so I can't even put the new one in the dish pantry, and my cookware cabinet it bursting already. Maybe I will check out the allrecipes site and Food Network and see if there are any ideas to excite my crock pot senses again.

I was just given one also. I did cook a whole chicken in it. I put the whole bird in the pot, added 2 cups vegetable stock, cut up onion/carrots/celery added fresh rosemary and thyme. It came out great (5 hours on low)! The kids loved it w/ rice. We had it w/ a salad. It is good for some things. We do not like to eat a ton of meat and it seems most dishes are meat dishes, or high calorie dishes. I will probably use it for the occasional whole chicken/soup/stew/chili dishes. I will check out the recipes though!

My favorite thing about allrecipes.com is the search where you can tell them what items you have and what items you do not have and it will give you recipes for those items.

My goal, though I never get around to it, is to start a cookbook scrap book. I want to print my favorites on pretty paper and take pictures of them to put in my book. I just need to get around to getting the book and paper.

I am looking for things to do with my crock pot. My mom just came down and made a pot roast so I will try it next week. But we are looking for more things to cook at home with not a lot of fuss.

Carmic, I practically live on Allrecipes.com. I absolutely love that site as well. And the pot roast recipe mentioned above....I made that for our Christmas dinner, for the 2nd year now, and it turned out beautifully. Everyone loved it!

You just can't go wrong with Allrecipes.com. You can make your own recipe box, shopping list, and even have your own personalized recipe box printed out/published. It has every feature I can think of to make cooking, shopping, organizing and keeping your kitchen prepped and stocked a breeze!

I have got to stop being lazy! I keep saying I am going to use my crock pot, but I never do! I don't know why!? Everyone says it makes cooking super easy. I need to just pull it out and start using it, other than just for chili.

We just use ours for hot dogs. For some reason that is how my husband likes them. I have it so I might as well use it.
