Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (17) son (8) girl (5) |
Does anyone have solutions for picky eaters? Kids I mean. There are a ton of suggestions on the internet, but they don't take into account that my son will not touch red meat, and my daughter prefers peas over green beans.
Do you have picky eaters and what do you do to get your child to eat the right stuff? I need some recipes ideas Tammy |

Gainesville 4: Boy (10), Girl (7), Boy (23 months), Boy (3 months) |
Yes, I have one picky eater. Everyone else eats everything. But my 9-year-old boy will not touch pizza or certain things with cheese. Although, he likes macaroni and cheese and string cheese. It's all very complicated.
But he's always the kid at the birthday party who bypasses lunch because lunch at parties is usually pizza. So, it's always an issue. I'd love some quick and easy recipes for kids, too. But the key for me is healthy. I need quick, easy and healthy. And those things usually don't go hand-in-hand. So, I'll be waiting with you for recipes, myspirit... |

Dalton is not so much a picky eater. I just dont think he eats all of what he needs. When i make him grilled cheese I use wheat bread and i just started putting some shreaded carrots in there. He dosent really seam to notice them. you might can try cooking spagitti using both chicken and hamburger meat. Maybe he wont know the difference. If you want him to have red meat that is.

There's a book by Jessica Seinfeld (Jerry's wife) called Deceptively Delicious. There are some AWESOME recipes in there ( I don't actually have the book, but I saw her on Rachael Ray and the recipe was so cool). She hides healthy. It's led me to sort of create hidden healthy myself. I make meatloaf, shread some zucchini when I mix the meat. or carrots. Add carrots to your banana bread, it's still veggies right

Ok here's one. I literally just made it up today and my kids (who are usually pretty picky) ate every bite!
2 boxes of Jiffy cornbread mix 1 package turkey breast hot dogs mini carrots Prepare the cornbread mix per the muffin recipe. Slice the hot dogs in to small rounds (or however you would normally slice them depending on the age of your child). Shred some of the carrots, 1 per muffin. I used about a half a hot dog per muffin. Grease or line 2 miffin pans. Fill each cup halfway. Then add your hot dogs and carrots. Then plop another spoonful on top. Bake at 400 for 10 minutes or until they're nice and brown. I cooked the rest of the carrots and drizzled with heated honey (of course no honey for the under 2 year olds). YUMMY! And best thing is, I didn't throw anything away!!! Of course, you could sub any veggie/meat combo (lunch meat or ham would be good), add cheese, personalize it. I think it's kind of novel to be having muffins for dinner, we usually have them for breakfast. And if you were really creative, you could make some sort of dip (maybe ketchup and mayo mixed) and "frost" them like cupcakes. |

lancaster, kentucky 2 official children (daughter, 5yrs...son, 6 1/2 yrs) do my hubby and chihuahua count as children? |
my daughter is severely picky.
she's never had red meat...refuses to eat it. and can even tell when i buy the beef hotdogs or try to sneak it in on her. she wont eat yellow cheese unless its on mac n cheese she wont eat anything with seeds that she cant eat around (banana's have seeds according to her, strawberries...everything has seeds) she only likes eggwhites most of the time, although i have gotten her to eat scrambled eggs lately. she wont eat anything green. with the exception of candy and thats only if she is really desperate. the only veggies she will eat are corn and baby carrots...and the carrots cant have anything different about them (they have to be perfect little fingers) she will eat pizza but only if she is absolutely sure there isnt anything on it she wont like (only sauce, and it cant be chunky..and cheese) when i fix pasta, she will not eat sauce. no red sauce, no white sauce. no garlic sauce. just plain noodles. she only likes certain chicken nuggets. she refuses to eat any fruit other than pears or apples. (although we are about to try kiwi tomorrow...we'll see how that goes) her food cant have anything black on it (no pepper or seasonings) her food cant have anything green in it (no seasonings, not even parsley for color) i think thats about it. im sure im missing alot of little "Lilly perks". im trying to broaden her horizons but it just isnt working. i try to hide things where i can but when she'll only eat chicken (like chicken breasts or nuggets...no real place to hide anything there)its really hard. her iron gets low from time to time because of all of this. oh...and a tip for anyone whose child is a picky eater...if you buy vitamins for your child...pay attention. the ones that have "added iron" tend to actually have LESS iron in them than the regular vitamins. so just read the label really well. if your child doesnt eat red meat, and doesnt eat alot of veggies...they probably will have iron levels on the low side. check with your doctor. |
