I have now gone through three boxes of Puff's Plus tissues. My DD helped me with the first box. My nose hurts so bad that I just want to rip it off. Under my eyes feel like they are going to explode. Anyone have any home remedies for a cold or to at least take away sinus pressure? Or any ideas to soothe my nose? At least my DD is feeling better. The first couple of days that I was sick, she was still pretty bad too.
And of course the hubby is working an extra shift! Uhhhh! |

Hey, I heard about something from two good sources: my step-DD who SUFFERS from allergies and a friend who is a nurse. It's called a netty-pot (sp?). I was about to break down and get one back in January, but the RX my doc had me on finally kicked in, so I can't speak from personal use of it, but they both absolutely swear by it. It's at Walgreens and it's some sort of system that you use to flush out your sinuses, a tube you insert into your nostrils and it really flushes out the sinus cavity up in your head. My next bout of sinuses, before I spend $100 on a doctor appt and a prescription, I'm going to try it. If you do, and it works, let me know. Good luck and hope you feel a lot better, real soon!

Thanks! Hopefully I can drag myself out of the house and get to Walgreens. I just tried to use the bulb syringe with no luck. I guess they are made for tee-tiny nostrils.

For sinuses I go to the pharmacy and get actual Sudafed (or generic) not the over the counter stuff...it doesn't work for me since they changed it. Also, as a more natural remedy...go to Walmart or Michaels and get some eucalyptus and hang it in your shower. When the steam from the shower hits it will totally clear out your sinuses. I used to use it all the time until hubby decided he didn't like the smell anymore..haha

even when your sinuses are not full they feel full because they are swollen from all of the blowing. take some ibuprofen. it will reduce the swelling and i agree that the little red sudafed pills will do the trick.

Okay, here's another one I haven't tried yet (since I'm pregnant), but read about it online. Lots of people on different message boards swear by it.
Anyway, they take Vicks VapoRub and apply it to the bottoms of their feet before going to bed and then put on their socks to keep the Vicks from getting all over the bedding. Also, have you tried the Puffs with Vicks? I used those during the winter colds I got during my pregnancy. They aren't going to cure your cold, but they did soothe my sore nose a little bit. |

I have a syringe with a special adapter on it for the squirting the salt water up the nose thing - it is nasty but works GREAT for allergies!!! Sudafed is my best friend... I also use Vicks at night - between my top lip and nose. Nasty but it sure opens the sinuses up!

I have heard about the Vicks on your feet for coughing, but I didn't know about the stuffy nose. I will try that tonight. Maybe I will get some sleep. I am going to get Sudafed. My mother-in-law just picked up my daughter just to let me rest.
If my grandfather were here he would tell my to take a shot of good 'ol moonshine. "That will cure what ails ya," he used to say that for everything. |

I usually use Vicks under my nose, but it is sooooo raw now that it would probably set me on fire!

try a thin layer of neosporin. my son has a really really bad habit of licking his lips and they get raw. at night once he's asleep, i go in there and coat them down. they are usually better in the morning.
i hope you feel better! nothing worse than a bad cold! promise if you don't get better you'll go see the doctor...my grandmother ended up in the hospital because she thought she could dr herself. she ended up with walking pneumonia... |

Well I just bought Lanolin for my nose. And more tissues. Now my hubby has it and his birthday is tomorrow. Poor guy! I knew that was coming though.
Good news is, the baby is getting better and my son doesn't have it. (Yet) Thank you for all of the advice and well wishes! |

I am feeling a little better, and the Lanolin helped a lot. Who would guess that "boob" lotion would help my nose?!
And as far as the weekend goes, today is my hubby's b-day and he has to work tomorrow and he is sick. So our plans are on hold. Good news is that next week is the public school Spring Break so hopefully we can get some fun in. We are suppose to go fishing with my dad and we are excited about that! Thanks for asking. How are your little ones? |
