Okay, it's time for my husband and I to find a family doctor and also for me to find a GYN. Any suggestions for good doctors close to the SW side of town that take BCBS? Thanks!

Are you close to the 720 Building near Shands/AGH?

There's a Dr. Suntharum (spelling?), a woman family doctor, who is very common sensical. Her advice to me at times has been: "Don't work so hard. Eat lots of orange fruit, like papaya."

She does all the tests and stuff, but I like that she mixes it with common sense.

And I like that it's a low traffic area where parking is readily available.

I love the women's physicians at NFRMC. Dr. Amy Million is amazing. They do well-woman care as well as OB.

Tom Benton is my choice for our pediatrician and I think he does family practice as well. He is so sweet and my husband's ped when he was young. He still talks about his doctor with the bow tie!

someone else mentioned the doctors at the 720 building. i have a few female issues that my dr at north florida did not recognize for more than 5 years. dr. david stewart at the 720 building actually listened to me and we worked everything out. he is a great ob/gyn. i'm not familiar with and peds on that side of town.

my children see dr. steve landay behind red lobsters on newberry road. he's closing in on retirement, not sure what we'll do then. but he's old school like dr. benton. he is very aggressive and doesn't believe in waiting things out or let's just see what happens. his staff is like family at this point.

good luck!

I had Dr.Tracey Botha at NFRMC and I love her. My ped is Dr. Mary Groom and me and my husband love her. Dr.Botha recommended her she is her kids ped.

But for a Family Doctor I have Dr. Karen Shannon and she can do the whole family. She can even do OBGYN. I did not switch all that over because I love Dr. Botha. Dr. Shannon is with the Gainesville Family Physicians.

I LOVE Dr. Benton. I am a paramedic here in Gville and we ran a call at his office when I was about 4 months pregnant and I fell in love with his entire office on that call. They treated myself and my crew with respect (they even had us come in through the back door with the stretcher so we wouldnt scare the kids in the waiting room!) He even gave the Mom whose kid we were transporting a hug because he knew she was upset.

When I had my daughter she required IV antibiotics and her first few days were overall a pretty scary experience for me, even being in healthcare. Dr. Benton was amazing... he came and saw us at North Florida and I felt wonderful after he explained everything to us.

Every experience I have had with his office has been amazing.... the nurses are great, and the few times I have needed a sick baby appointment I was able to get one within a few hours. And his nurses are great about returning phone calls...

For an OBGYN I had Dr. Muskus who is at North Florida WC. He was great... and he is actually very well versed in pretty much all gyno things (I believe he will be retiring from OB to do just GYN in a few years.)

Hope that helps!
