I have had it many times in my life and it has always spread. This time it is really spreading all over by my clothes rubbing the rash and spreading it to other areas. I have been seen my my doctor and she said it is poison ivey and it looks and feels the same as when I was a kid. However, every web site I have checked says it's NOT contagious. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

Mary, I'm HIGHLY allergic as well. Last attack was about a year and a half ago...doc gave me a 2-week run of steroids and a topical cream called Vanos cream 0.1%. Between those two and the Benadryl, worked like a charm. Not sure what you can take with nursing, but mention that cream to your doc if you're not already on it. Good luck and God bless...I certainly can share your pain, LOL!

You know, growing up I always thought that poison ivy spread. However Mary, like you I checked out websites the last time I had poison ivy and found that it isn't supposed to spread. One thing that I learned from reading about Poison Ivy was that it can take a few days for the entire rash to appear. Is it possible that it isn't spreading by your clothes but that it just took a few days for the entire effected area to show itself? Did you ask your Dr. about whether poison ivy spreads or not? Maybe she knows why it would spread on you but not on most people? Keep us posted, I'm very interested to know what the outcome is.

I have been on an oral steroid and it didn't work. I'm pretty sure it spread due to the places it is in...

The pharmacist also told me it is highly contagious and spreads. I found this wash though called Zanfel and it works to relieve the itch FAST. My case is severe so I had to do a couple washes but am def feeling better. I hope it stays gone and the rash goes away because it is $40 for a 1 oz tube! Plus, baby comes home today and I don't want him getting it after all he's been through.
