Our very own moderator Mary Reichardt was due to have her first child Saturday. Let's help her count down the days! Offer advice, tips ... and supportSmiler

I'm first.

Mary, I cannot wait to meet the new baby, Baby R's future best friend. Aw. You are almost there. Any day now. I promise, it will be over with before you know it. Say goodbye to good sleep. Oh yeah, that already ended, didn't it?

It is an amazing and beautiful process. The waiting is so hard, kind of brought me back to being a kid and just dying to open those Christmas gifts! As we get older, it is hard to retain the excitement and joy we felt as children. However, I would have to say that waiting for a baby to be born can actually top the excitement, and marvel at the wonders of the world..we took for granted as children ourselves. I recall looking at woman w/ little children, when I was a week past due, and thinking "their kids came out, why won't mine?" You will get there! Then you can join the club of woman on this site who have probably gotten really good at typing w/ one hand!

I was two weeks and 1 day late with my last one...come to think of it I was two weeks late with #1 and 9 days late with #2. The last one was #3. So I can much relate. My husband and I used to go for evening walks...(really really slow Smiler)....and the neighbors would all be calling out "no baby yet huh". Just hang in there. I remember I used to try to rest and I just couldn't the nesting urge was so strong I couldn't stop tinkering with the nursery and everything. How are you feeling??? Any contractions yet?? I remember I was almost 3 centimeters dialated for the last week and I felt so much pressure all the time. We're all there with you in our hearts!!

Karen

Karen,
I was two weeks overdue with my third as well. What horrible waiting that was for me. I never want to do that again.

Suzy, I guess some of us just tend to go over due. They said as long as she wasn't getting too big and my amniotic fluid was Ok( I had a slow leak)that I could go up to two weeks over...they induced me on two weeks and one day....

Mary...be sure to give Suzy the heads up when you do go in so we can all be holding good thoughts and prayers for you.

I actually was scheduled to be induced on two weeks over exactly. They wouldn't let me go over that because of his size. He was a 9-pounder. But he came on his own just as we walked into the hospital to be induced. I guess he didn't want anyone to make him, haha.

I love that my doctor gave me a due date range from June 30th to July 4th. I think it is so easy to expect the baby to be born the day the doctor says the baby is due when you just have one date. Of course, I could still go past the 4th, but at least it won't seem that much longer with the 5 day span he gave me!

Sometimes babies take longer than others to come, but hang in there. Your body will not let you stay pregnant forever!

As an adoptive mom, I never had to go through this....and usually in adoption, they don't proceed with the "adoption plan" until during or after the 2nd trimester....so I never waited more than 3 months for any of my babies...so a pregnancy of 9 months (and then some) sounds absolutely barbaric to me, LOL! I just couldn't stand it! I'm a very impatient person. So I really don't have any personal experience to share with you, but know that your in my prayers!

Well I walked the mall today for 2 hours (in between sit breaks and chik-fil-a) and my husband is out playing basketball but checking the phone every 20 minutes because I have it on some insider information that tonight is the night (see "moon" post) so...I get disheartened hearing how many women go so far over their due dates and I know I may be setting myself up for disappointment each night hoping and praying for a contraction (I know I'll eat those words later) but what else is there to do at this point? Thank you girls for all your support!

I've got my fingers crossed for you. Some of the old wives tales that I have heard are walking, eating chinese food, sex and drinking caster oil. I can't say that I know if any of them work but I did all 3 in one day (Not the caster oil)and woke up at 4:30 the next morning in labor so who knows - I was a week overdue and willing to try just about anything at that point.

Hang in there though, I promise you won't stay pregnant forever!!!
