Has anyone ever had this done at their dentist's office? I'd be interested in finding out whether it's worth paying more to have it done professionally versus the white strips you can buy at the drug store.

I just bought the Crest white strips, but I don't like them. They are kind of yucky. And you are supposed to do two strips twice a day for two weeks. I don't know if I'll be able to do it. I'd rather go see a dentist. Any one else?

I tried the Crest also and the taste made me gag and they would not stay on my teeth. I am getting up the nerve to do it w/ my dentist. My neighbor had a bad experience w/ falling asleep w/ the trey in her mouth and her gums got a bad burn and she could not eat/drink for a few days..kinda scared me off for a little while Smiler.

O.k. As a dental assistant(now SAHM) I can tell you that there are three ways to whiten your teeth. Two being with the help of a dentist and the other with over the counter products.
With the dentist you have ZOOM, which is done right in the office. It does work, but watch out for sensitivity. The solution used is very strong. Immediate results.
The other is when the dentist makes you bleaching trays that fit your teeth snuggly. This will involve taking impressions of your teeth so you will get a adequate fitting tray. After you get your trays(in a couple of days maybe), usually you bleach for a couple of weeks or until you are satisfied with the results. You can still get some sensitivity. Results can happen within 7 days to 2weeks. Sometimes longer depending on your teeth.
Then you have over the counter (white strips...)
I have seen them work, but they have a lower concentrate solution so it takes a bit longer.
Sensitivity is much less.

Hope that helps and doesn't confuse.

THanks for the info jetermom! I've thought about this recently, but have very sensitive teeth. So my best bet would probably to do the strips.

That's some really great information. I think I'd be more likely to go for the instant gratification, rather than trying to remember to use a tray or the strips every night for a couple weeks. I have a feeling I'd forget or just get busy with other things. This is definitely something I'll look into.

there is a new kisok in the mall that offers teeth whitening right there, in the open! it is a machine with a bright light that they hook up to your mouth somehow. i felt awkward watching, felt like i was intruding or something!

anyone know anything about this?

I will have to do some research but I just saw very recently a warning that you need to be careful with the mall kiosk for teeth whitening. It was a warning about the chemicals they are using. Let me research for a minute and I will post what I can find out.
