Today I woke up feeling gross and fat. My hair that was once shiny is now greasy so I called my hairdresser and she had an opening today. I lopped off 4 inches and got some bangs on a whim. I had no real idea of a particular cut when I went in but when I got home I looked like a total 'mommy.' I thought it was just me but my husband said the same thing when he got home! I don't care...I love it and for today, I feel pretty. I'm goin' out for martinis with the girls!

When I first had my daughter, I had pretty long hair, down to the middle of my back. But as my daughter has gotten older, my hair has gotten shorter. I'm not sure why? lol I guess it's true we have "mommy hair." Now my hair doesn't even touch my shoulders!

That's great you were able to get a hair cut you feel good about! Have fun with the girls tonight! Smiler

I had very long hair when my son was born and I swore I was NOT going to get the 'mommy haircut.' And I didn't - until he learned how to pull it out of a hair tie and yank on it!
I promptly had about 12 inches cut off and though I don't love the style as much as I loved my long hair, it's so much easier! He doesn't even try to mess with it now!
So much for swearing off the mommy cut!!

Ditto...BC, I had hair, thick, heavy hair halfway down my back. With each kid, it's gotten shorter. I call it the "Mom Chop". Smiler

I tell you what I hate are those little baby hairs that grow when one is pregnant. It looks like I've got horns. I finally couldn't take it anymore this morning and cut them off while I'm sititng at my desk and now I have this fuzz.

LOL! What a timely post! The funny thing is that I used to have the "mom" hair before I had kids. When I was pregnant with my second, I finally decided to grow it out. It took years, but finally got well past the middle of my back. Well, I just got back from the salon and chopped about 5 inches off. I guess I'm destined to go back to mom hair slowly but surely!

I just cut my hair really short a couple weeks ago, kind of Kate-ish from "Jon & Kate" (although I totally didn't mean to copy her look, but someone said that almost right after I did it -- maybe it was subconscious). It's so much easier to take care of, and quicker to fix than when I had long hair. I love it.

I cut mine a while back from long to shoulder length because my son kept pulling my hair but now he still pulls it so it may be time to go shorter. I wish I could do a short do like Kate from Jon and Kate but my face is way to fat/round for that but boy would that be nice and easy.

I recall being about 18 and looking at a Moms and thinking to myself "how in the world do they not see they are letting themselves go". Now that I am a Mom, I realize how hard it is to devote time to ourselves. We always have so many competing priorities and then the guilt when we spend time, or money, on ourselves. If possible, I think all Moms should get regular trips to the salon, facials and pedicures when they can and a new outfit when necessary and always make a little time for exercise. W/ out a drop of guilt! It just makes us feel so much better about ourselves and in the end, we are better Moms as a result and we are setting good examples for our kids!

Marianne we should have gone together! I go to Dawn at the new Salon 119 in Tioga Towne Center. I've been with her for years and she is great and I love her new place...sooooo fancy. The thing is, I swore of the "mommy cut" as well and somehow got tricked into it. I just thought it was cute and didn't realize I had mommy hair until I got home! LOL! Oh well I love it anyway and I love that healthy, new feeling.

This thread is too funny!

I had very short Sharon Stone-like haircut before baby. I let it grow long since then because I think the long hair is easier! If I have time, I do a quick blowdry. No time = air dry. Both usually end up in a pony tail or hair clip.

Short hair I found I had to shampoo every day. Long hair I can go 2 days with the ponytail and no shampooing.

'Course, I'm not sayin' I look stylish! I'm with the rest of you on "it needs to be easy".

I have actually been looking for a place to start going. I feel like I jump around a lot, and I really want to find someone I can stick with. I saw your suggestion Mary, which sounds pretty good. Any other suggestions of good salons around Gainesville?

Michael Anzivino is the owner of Ciao Bella Salon in the plaza down town-right next to the Hippodrome. He is from England and trained in Europe. He owns the salon and is great! Here is the link to his salon. He is also my neighbor and a great person. His wife is a good friend and manages the salon with him.
