Two boys, ages 3 and 1 |
So I'm thinking about getting a tattoo, something that signifies my two boys. Does anyone have a tattoo that has some special meaning in your life as a mom? Maybe one that you got in honor of your kids or as a celebration after you gave birth. Post pictures if you got them! (I've got something in mind for myself, but I would love to see what others have.)

I've read that this has become a growing trend. Personally, i have a tattoo. It's a dolphin. I love dolphins. As far as a mommy tattoo, I want one of those also. I know what I want (a rose for Hannah and a gladiolus for Emma, June and August's birth flower respectively) I just don't know where I want it. I want to put them in a place that's not affected by weight gain or loss....you never know.

I've been thinking about placement as well -- you're right, it needs to be in a place that's not affected as much by weight changes and regular aging. I also don't want it to be in a place that's visible at all times. I thought about the back of the neck -- as my hair would cover it up most of the time.

my daughter has a friend who lost her baby to premature birth and lots of other complications. she has a tattoo of his hand prints in a private place.
i think it is up to the individual. i've seen someone getting a tattoo and know for 100% certain that it is not for me. i can think of many other ways of paying tribute to my children that do not include a needle injected 1000's of times... good luck! |

3 kids, all girls, 17, 15 and 3 |
I think they can be pretty if done tactfully. I will not ever get one personally. My husband has one of the Army symbol on his upper forearm. Other than that we are tattoo free here. ...Its just not for me..

Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (17) son (8) girl (5) |
I have one on towards the left (my left) on my chest. I can show it off with a low cut shirt or a tank top, but is easily covered with work shirts.
I LOVE my tattoo. My signifies both my life after divorce and my children. It is a butterfly in all my favorite colors. Purple, pink, blue and yellow. The butterfly, to me, shows wings spreading and taking off into a new life, much like when a butterfly leaves its metamorphosis. And inside the wings I have the names of my children and their dates of birth. My kids view it as that they are always a part of me and tell me that I can never take off their names. They love physically seeing their names forever on me. I don't have a picture of it, but if you would like to see it, I can take and post a picture. Tammy |

I have a couple of tattoos also, I love them. They are in places that are easy to cover. As a matter of fact my co-workers of 5yrs had no idea that I had tattoos until one weekend when I did not cover them. They were shocked that they did not know this about me. If you want a tattoo, go for it. I would like to get one more myself.

I have a picture of a wicked-looking Cheshire Cat on my arm. I love it!
One day, I will get my daughters names tattooed on me somewhere, in some cool gothic script. But that will have to wait until I have some disposable income... so it might be another decade or two :-) |

myspiritwithin, I'd love to see a pic. Post it on the site -- it sounds beautiful.

I have dual personalities. Part of me thinks the body is most beautiful in its purest form. My "bad girl" side loves the idea of a tat! I most likely will never get one but if I ever did it would be something honoring my children. I like Angelina Jolie's tats--She has four sets of geographical coordinates on her upper left arm indicating the birthplaces of her children.

This is the best pic I could get. I had to take it while standing in front of the mirror, lol.

Tammy, that's really pretty. I thought about doing my flower thing with the girls names underneath, but in the petals, like yours are in the wings, would be even cooler.
I love the one I have. It's on my ankle and really who goes around looking at ankles?? I don't want it in a place where I never or can't see it (like my back) because I want to enjoy it. I was thinking of doing a permanent bracelet with the flowers as the centerpiece and sort of a vine around my wrist. How does that sound? Of course, like Nate, that may be a while due in part to lack of disposable income |

Caryn, that sounds really cool. And putting your kids' names in the petals of the flowers would be awesome.
When you get it done, I would like to see it. Do you have a picture of the one you have now? Tammy |

Daughter 1994 & son 2000. |
You guys are all brave. OUCH!!! Beautiful butterfly, by the way.
I used to want a tattoo until I started seeing older, balder, fatter, not-so-nicely dressed seniors sporting sagging tattoos. And I do know of some professional organizations/businesses that will not allow a tattoo to show, so please be careful if you are young, considering college and looking for a white-colar job. Placement WILL matter. |
