That is insane. This book totally sends the wrong message to our children. Mommy should be beautiful regardless of how she looks.

Just what we need -- to raise children to believe that one can only feel good about oneself by surgery. That looks are the only aspect of us that matters. that it is impossible to have good self esteem or find happiness if we are not gorgeous.

I shudder to think what kids will be like in 20 years, when the kids raised on this book turn into parents themselves. yikes

I personally feel the same way. I think it would be so strange to sit down and read this story to my daughter. I wish our society could embrace a woman's beautiful body before and after childbirth, and promote natural beauty as opposed to unrealistic standars they set by airbrushing and hiring anorexic actresses and models to display on magazines and video.

That reminds me, did you hear about France's attempt to France attempts to ban anorexia fashion? I'm curious to see how this will work. Maybe I should start a new thread??? Wink

Absolutely appalling!! And we wonder why little girls grow up hating their bodies.

So, this book is supposed to help KIDS understand why their mommies are getting plastic surgery? Why is it marketed toward girls. Not boys? (As usual, huh?)

I agree this is appaling. My own mother had plastic surgery when I was a teen. However, it wasn't something that my parents made a big deal about. My mother nursed three children and was left with deflated breast. We can all relate. They simply told us she was having a little surgery and that was it. Later when I was old enough to understand (about 16) my mom and dad both said that we were all beautiful the way we were born and we should appreciate our healthy bodies. My mother never flaunted her new breast like some women do. So far none of my sisters or I have had plastic surgery.

That's great that you heard that you were beautiful from your father. I think that if our children don't hear it at home, then they will let everyone else -- the media, tv, music -- define what beautiful is. And that can be disastrous.
