Gainesville 4: Boy (10), Girl (7), Boy (23 months), Boy (3 months) |
So, we were talking about paternity tests on another thread
http://talk.gainesvillemoms.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5351...471082807#9471082807 ...and how sad it is that so many women and girls have to actually get DNA tests to figure out who the father is. Well, here is part of the problem. This web site promotes surgery and dieting and girls compete to become "Miss Bimbo." Are you kidding me?! http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/03/25/miss.bimbo/ This message has been edited. UGH! What is this world coming to anyway? Sadly there are parents out there that would let their child play because "Everyone else is doing it." Probably the same parents buying their children suggestive clothing so that they can look like Brittany Spears etc. I really wish more people would stand up and take responsibility for themselves and their children.

Speaking of suggestive clothing, have you seen some of the clothing that the retail stores are carrying for little girls?! Like my DD's age. She is just 7 and I cannot believe some of the clothing out there for girls her age.

Grand Rapids, Michigan Part time mom to 30+ needy kids all ages, all sizes, all colors |
I was part of that paternity thread discussion and debated on pulling this one up to read it becuase it just gets me so frustrated!!!!
I understand until the coming of Christ - there will be NO perfect world. We will continue to have girls need to have paternity tests to find out the father's of their children and there will be girls who seek love in the bed of a man because they have absent fathers - but THAT'S what I"m saying!!! Absent FATHERS - Absent MOTHERS!!! THAT is where is starts at people!!! Our PARENTS who are raising our children need to grow up and BE parents!!! Like Suzy said - we have people buying this suggestive clothing for their 7 year olds!!!! These stupid beauty contests for these little girls!!! We have kids who don't go to school because their parents are sleeping off the night before. We have babies having babies because their parents don't really care - but yet - when protective services are involved - they're a top notch parent. Please! Do you think we are STUPID! When your child comes to school late, dirty, tired, etc - we KNOW you're not doing your job as a parent. Do I care if the clothes don't match?? NO - but clean clothes is a must! When they smell becasue they are not getting washed... when they need glasses.... when they need dental work... Dang it! I have a mom who won't sign a freakin' piece of paper to get her kids teeth checked!!!! ALL SHE HAS TO DO IS SIGN IT and I had to take another form filled out and stand there while she signed it. It's THAT stuff. It's not the kids stuff - it's the IDIOT parents that are out there raising these kids and it's not even our generation!!! It's a generation before us!!! Then with each generation it's multiplied by 10 fold and now - we have an epidemic but if we dont' talk about it - if we dont' demand our parents be thrown in jail if the kids aren't fed, bathed and clothed; if they're not in school every day unless they're sick - maybe in another couple generations - things would turn back - but until people take a stand and say NO - and not even becuase of a religious conviction - it's just LIFE!!! I could go on and on on this.... obviously... Part-time mom to 30+ needy kids all ages, all sizes and all colors |

Suzy...I know what you are saying about clothing! I was just at Target the other night and was looking at the "shorts"...I was thinking...they look like short boxer shorts! I would not send my daughter out in those! Oh and while I was there I went to the Barbie aisle...OH MY! They have these dolls from some Top Model show....they are disturbing! Just nasty! My daughter and I got into it over some other Barbie dolls because all the girls in her Kindergarden (ack!) had them and when I went and looked, I said no way! She was upset but I told her honestly that they did not dress in a way that I thought was right. |

I think it's sad when you look at this situation from the perspective that these young ladies have a very low self-esteem. And yes, the parents are completely responsible for raising their children to realize their full potential and talents, but our society and the standard Hollywood has set for women doesn't help either!
I mean, these women have to think, "Well, I have no other talent, might as well compete for Miss Bimbo!" Then there's the body issue. We are plagued by pictures of stick-figured women and it has been drilled in our heads that these boyish bodies are beautiful. Women in Hollywood who used to have curves are starving themselves for roles in movies because their agents tell them that's what they have to do in order to look more beautiful. I really think it's all sad when women are told that they need to alter their image or that their self-worth is determined by their outward appearance. I've seen young, intelligent women and teens play the bimbo because they feel that is what they need to do in order to be attractive. I wonder if we will ever see a day where women say enough is enough!?!? |

Oh yeah, and as far as the clothing for young girls. I hate that "Britney" look. I hope that I can effectively teach my daughters that there is a time and place for sexy and that "sexy" doesn't need to be shared with everyone! As a grown woman, I want to be sexy, but for my husband, not for anyone else! I think that the moms who push their daughters into that way of thinking at such a young age are really sending the wrong message to their daughters!

The suggestive clothing is just plain disturbing. Walmart had a shirt last summer (starting with size 4 children's I believe) that said "Let's download something naughty." If that isn't nasty I don't know what is. Then the crop shirts and short shorts. The stores wouldn't make them if people would stop buying them!

Those shirts must be just around the corner from those shorts with the words on the butts! Might as well just say "Look at my butt!"
