So, what is your secret?

How do you cook a turkey? Do you cover it with mayonnaise?

Do you put it in a brown paper bag?

Please let me know as well, I am cooking my first one this year. Also what about mashed potatoes? I dislike my mother in laws, but she knows mashed potatoes are my favorite. So I figured I would get out of eating hers my making my own.

As far as the turkey goes the last few years I have been cooking mine in a roaster. It comes out really juicy and tender. I don't really do anything fancy to it I just let it cook in its own natural juices (baste from time to time and cover with foil until almost done so that the top doesn't burn). When I make my plate I add lots of gravy on top. Yummo!

Mashed potatos are easy too. Just boil your potatos until you can stick a fork in them and they start to break apart easily, and drain. Beat with an electric mixer or mash with a potato masher. Add milk a little at a time, and lots of butter, salt and pepper. Don't over mix if you use a mixer or they will become gloppy.

Hope this helps a little.

My secret for all of the Thanksgiving meal courses is to turn on Food Network starting this weekend and keep it on as they make dishes and also show you how to rescue a mistake....LOL

That and I don't cook the bird, just the sides

I thought this sounded good!

Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the use of popcorn as a stuffing -- imagine that. When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who just are not sure how to tell when poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give this a try.

8 - 15 lb. Honeysuckle turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good.)
1 cup uncooked popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT)
Salt/pepper to taste

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush turkey well with melted butter salt, and pepper. Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the neck end toward the back of the oven (this is very important).

Listen for the popping sounds. When the turkey's ass blows the oven door open and the bird flies across the room, it's done.

And, you thought I didn't cook...
