I know the sleuths in this group will be able to help us with this.
A camera was turned in to Gainesville Health & Fitness Center yesterday that was lost on Sept. 13 at Gainesville Family Fun & Fitness Day at Kanapaha Park. While looking through the pictures to find some way to identify the owner, we found newborn baby pictures. I can't imagine losing photos of your new baby. So, are there any sleuths out there that can help us identify the owners. Here's what we think we know so far from looking at this photo. This baby was born sometime around June 21, 2008 at Shands. The peditrician's name is Kelly and the OB's name is Cruz. The rest of the card at the top right of the photo is difficult to read without the help of some "CSI" folks. Unfortunately, I can't find birth announcements for the area, plus HIPAA means the hospital can't help too much. If you think you have a hot lead, send me an email at brianrussell@ghfc.com. Brian,
Unfortunately the birth announcements we receive at The Sun don't list pediatrician or OB's name, so I don't know that they'd be much help. I would almost bet that if someone took the camera to the OB's office, someone there would help you find it without giving out any of the patient's information. I can't imagine losing those photos either. Hopefully someone can help |

Brian,
Since the baby would be due for its 3 month visit about now, you might try to locate the pediatrician whose name was shown in the photos. They are also bound by HIPPA but that doesn't mean they couldn't take info from the camera (brand, color, serial #) as well as descriptions from the pics and see if they can match a patient to them. They can always ask the patient if a camera was recently lost and give them your contact info without violating any rules. Hope you can find them, I know it must be frustrating on both sides! (They may even have an announcement board where you could put up info) |

What kind of camera was it? I saw a listing in the lost and found section of craiglist.
link to listing Of course this person thinks they might have lost it at gator city. It may not be the camera of the parents but rather a friend. Maybe you could post a found listing? Good luck! I lost or had stolen a camera right before the birth of my son and was very upset. I can't imagine losing one with pictures on it. -Amy |

Does the Sun do a free "found" listing?? Maybe you could try that.
And it doesn't look like North Florida...so that narrows it down if the baby was born in Gville. Maybe the hospitals can help. |

It's not the camera from the craigslist post, but I did just add a "found" post.
Thank you for your help, and keep it coming. I've spent all day on this one (sending emails and making phone calls), and want to make sure the camera makes it home. |

Would it help to contact the schools that participated and have them send a note home to parents asking if any lost a camera? I'm sure many of them know which kids participated. Maybe they would be of more help. Actually the office staffer may be able to identify who is in the pictures.

Wow that is really sad. You are awesome for trying so hard to track down the owner. I would say try getting in touch with the OB if the pediatrician was a dead end.

Brian,
Wow, I am sorry to hear you are meeting so many brick walls when you are just trying to do the right thing. I wish you all the best of luck and if I think of anything else to try, I will let you know. Are there any other photos that might help? Show a name or a work shirt or badge? |

you are so good to try to help. Have you checked to see if GHF has a lost and found?

LEW,
I'm a GHFC employee. It was turned in Sept. 21 to our lost and found after it was picked up at Gainesville Family Fun & Fitness Day at Kanapaha Park (which was Sept. 13). I have a list of 550+ names and phone numbers who registered at the free event, but no leads on a name. Plus, the name may not be on the list at all. All, Dr. Cruz emailed me back this evening to say she didn't recognize anyone from the photos. I've received a few emails telling me to look at the numbers in the photos. Unfortunately, I can't read them. There aren't any name tags in the other photos (although there are a lot of pictures on the camera of a lot of people). There are some exterior house photos, but no street numbers (or street names). If anyone has a breakthrough in reading the numbers or other information in the photo, please let me know. |

I spent about 20 minutes with Kodak this morning, but unfortunately the owner didn't turn in the warranty card.
One person who emailed me said they saw "Erin" and "Burgess" on the tag in the baby photo. Hopefully that will lead somewhere. |

They may not even know that the camera is missing yet, especially if it fell out of a bag. They may later discover it is missing and retrace their steps which might lead them to calling GHF. Keep us posted!
