My husband and I are considering adoption for our family. Does anyone have any recommendations for resources or reading materials?

I know someone who is trying to adopt also, plus she has worked (and still does, I believe) with people wanting to adopt. She may have a couple of ideas or answers to questions. Let me know if you want me to contact her with your email address.

TripleA mom on this board is an adoptive parent. I have talked to her a lot about it! She is wonderful! She can give ALL sorts of info...I know she has been pretty busy lately, but I would send her a PM and she will get back to you when she has a minute...she loves talking about it

I work at Catholic Charities, we have a very large adoption program. I do not work in that program so I do not know all the details but you cal call or go online for more info. You do not have to be Catholic (as I am not) to use their services, actually 80 something % of the people we serve are not catholic.

For a local meeting resource group of adoptive parents and adopted children, check out Chosen Families. Link

The have speakers, play groups, meetings, info, activities for families, you name it.

There are many local resources for getting started with an adoption. Those mentioned above, certainly, as well as Miracle Adoptions, here in Gainesville, and St. Gerard's Campus (an unwed mothers home) in St. Augustine. If you want to PM me, I can also give you the name of the social worker who has done all 4 of our homestudies, as well as the names of the attorneys who handled each of our adoptions. I have had great luck in all of my adoptions, and we're waiting right now to be matched with our next child.
