My husband and I are expecting our first child in September...it's very exciting! We have lived in Gainesville pretty much our entire lives, but now are in need of a pediatrician for our soon-to-be-here little one. I have started calling local offices, but have been told it's too early to sign up...and I'm already 29 weeks! Is there a standard time before the baby is actually here before we can be placed on a waiting list? Also, any recommendations for local pediatricians?
We use Dr. Kelly at Haile. She's sooo sweet, and takes the time to do an exam. Very through. But I was told, just to call in the hospital when I had her, and they'd set her first appt up. You can call and meet with her before hand though. Her number is 352-372-5556 Hope that helps daphne

We use Dr. Grooms in the Womens Center. She is in a pratice of a few doctors all of which we like very much. I think it's Gainesville Pediatric Associates, Inc. 333-5500
We did go in at around your time maybe a couple weeks later. Not much later. We had a consultation with her and she is a fabulous pediatrician.
My son has had no bad experiences and for illnesses that come up out of the blue or whatever, we can be fit right in with no issues. The nursing staff is top notch as well. And anytime I have had to call with a question the nurse calls back very quickly.
Love 'em

Most of my friends and I use Healthy Step Peds. their # is 352-333-0085. They are located on Tower Rd near 24th. They were voted best ped practice in Gaiesville, (i think last year), by Gainesville parents. Congrats on the new addition and Good Luck!!!
We use Dr. Ana at Healthy Steps as well...she is really sweet and really takes her time. Everyone in the office is very nice. Here is their website: http://www.healthystepspediatrics.com/
Thanks for all the suggestions! Wow! What a great place this is for advice and help! It's nice to know that there are several options for good peditricians around town.
I think it's more important to choose early if you're having a boy. It's the peds who do the circumcision and they reccommend it be done in the hospital after birth so keep that in mind. I have Dr. Benton and his is amazing. This same questiond was posted a month or two ago so you can look back in the archives and see the other responses there as well. Happy Hunting!
I love my Pediatrician. His name is Dr. Castillo @ Milla Pediatrics. Their office is on Newberry Rd. By the Woman's center. He's the only Pediatrician I really trust. He's really good and he's never been wrong with his diagnosis.
We use Dr. Benton too. I LOVE him. I can email him anytime with any question, and he gets back to me (once as late as 11 pm). He also actually listens to parents as to what they want to do and what they think is wrong. I have had my kids with him for 8.5 years now. My son (2) loves him. It doesn't matter how long it has been since we have been there, my son still has to go and give him hugs.

My daughter has an awesome pediatrician, Dr. Mellott at UF Pediatrics. The office is off 16th Avenue, near Shands. The number is 352-334-0206. She is wonderful and even takes the time to call you with test results rather than having a nurse do it! She is GREAT!
Dr. Grooms is great at Gainesville Peds; however, anyone you pick there is great. We use DR. Wyatt and he is also one of the best. I meet with him early I remember because daughter was preemie and I had her at 28 weeks.
I love Dr. Grooms. She seems to always remember which one of us was holding Kaylee for her last visit and what Kaylee did the last time we were there. She is really sweet and we love her to death. But all the doctors there are great. We have seen all of them at some point and they really cared about what was going on with our daughter when we see them.
