I had this young exchange student show up at my house this morning at 8am.I let her in to do her speel on these educational book series. I ended up agreeing to purchase. I felt so bad for her. She's here for the summer trying to sell these things. I caved. After the whole thing I coudn't say no.

Anyway $400.00 for the set and now I am having second thoughts. I have three days to cancel. I really want the set but, $400.00?

So,

Has anyone else bought these books? She had other moms on the list from my street and around town. Do any of you have good things to say about them? Do you know of them? Southwestern At Home. com

I need to know if they are worth the money.

It doesn't matter now. I cancelled. I may get them next year when they come around again. I'll see.

As a general rule, I avoid giving money to anyone who comes yo my door for any reason. If its something i might be interested in, I take the information and check on it (if its legitimate, they will have an address, a phone number, and/or a website). But usually they just want a check before they leave. Something they have the audacity to say they take credit cards.

Smart move in cancelling it! I know you felt bad for her, but there was a chance that she WANTED you to feel bad for her, to make it easier to sell you something.

If someone walks up to your door with a 2-liter drink, tell them you're not interested. They probably want to sell you a $1200 Kirby after a 2 hour demonstration. Then if you don't want to buy it, you almost have to call the cops to get them out of your house.

That's experience talking so I don't let anyone I don't know into my house.

She, or one of her peers in the program, came to my house too! It was a very hot day & she was walking! However, I used the old "putting baby down for nap gotta run" excuse. She said she wanted to come back at a better time...and was very aggressive! Did not buy anything.
