Honestly, I have been way to busy to pick up a good book lately. So, I am interested in knowing what everyone else out there is reading...any must-reads?

Anna Karenina. I'm not joking, nor am I trying to sound intellectual. A friend recommended it to me because it was on the Oprah book club list and she had picked it up.
It's got a great story that is still relevant today, and the best part...the chapters are reallllly short, sometimes no more than 3 pages. So, in a short 10 minute lull between feedings and diaper changes, I had time to read a chapter or two and I never lost the thread, even if I couldn't read a lot at once. I highly, highly recommend it.

If looking for a good set of classics, I would definitely recommend books by Jane Austen. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice. For something more contemporary I am at a loss. As a fifth grade teacher most of the books I read are children's books. I always tell the students that I would never make them read a book I have not read myself. Also they are always asking for recommendations so it is nice to be able to suggest something based on their interests. Grownup reading seems to only happen in the summer so I am anxious to see what books people suggest so I can start my summer reading list.

Have you heard of GoodReads.com? It's an awesome way to see what your friends and family are reading, read reviews by other members, and create your own lists of books you love/hate and books you'd like to read!

Ok, laugh if you must, but I'm reading #7 of Harry Potter right now. Maybe a bit childish, but the books are fantastic. JK Rowling really has an imagination. I started by reading 6 & 7, then started at the beginning of the series and read all the way through. So, this will be my second time reading 7. I typically slip into the tub after a long day and read a chapter or two.

I also have several of the Little House on The Prairie series. I love reading those because they contain the occasional recipe or explain how things were done back then. It's funny to think that my Grandmother could have been Laura Engle's daughter's daughter...If that makes sense! I just find it interesting just how far we've come in such a short time.

Mm, I miss reading. The only time I get to read anymore is on my lunch break at work. But, I agree with scrappingmom about Jane Austen...awesome books. I read them in high school and college and you never truly forget them. And with Casmly about the Little House on the Prairie. It's been years since I've read those, but I still have them and they are terrific. They take you back to such simpler times, don't they?

But I'm also hooked on (for true crime) Ann Rule..she, well, rules, LOL. And for legal thrillers, you can't beat John Grisham, can you? And for medical/legal/forensic thrillers, I love Patricia Cornwell (the Kay Scarpetta series of books) but really back only when she wrote in the first person narrative. Her more recent books....eh, not so much.

But with three kids now, my mind is always half-way somewhere else, so I like to go back and re-read books I've read before. That way when I'm overtired or distracted, I can drift off while reading and then pick back up quickly without missing much. Oh, how I miss rainy weekends spent in bed with a good book!

I have not been a reader since I had to start reading at school in jr hi school. Wouldn't even read my text books in college but - 2 years ago - a teacher friend of mine said I HAD to read this book. I tried to explain to her that I"ve been stuck in the 2nd book of the "Left Behind" series for like 8 years.. she still said I had to read it. SO - she brought it to me. I read this book in 3 days. I could NOT put it down. I found the second day I coudn't take it to work with me or I would be reading during a few minutes here and there that weren't even breaks!!! I sat on the swing on the front porch until I needed to turn the porch light on to read because it was getting dark. It was SO good... the title you ask?? Francine Rivers "Atonement Child". Then I read her book "The Shofar blew". That was almost as good!!! It took me 1 1/2 weeks to get through that one. Now - I'm a reader again - especially in the summer when I can sit outside.

The Chicken Soup for the soul books I've enjoyed also because even when I didn't read - I could pick one up and read a story in 1-2 pages. They have some great inspiring stories. I'm trying to get through a book now so I can read the "Tony Dungy" story. Same teacher said I will LOVE it!

Has anyone here read "Twilight"? It's similar to Harry Potter in that it was written for youngsters, but it is a great quick read. It has love and action and vampires. Nothing too deep, but clean and entertaining. It's the first book in a series, so if you like it, there is more to come.

"Little Earthquakes" by Jennifer Weiner is a great "beach read" for moms. Jenny McCarthy's "Belly Laughs" and "Baby Laughs" are hilarious, too.
