I am looking to possibly change where my kids go to school next year. I am not happy with Shell in Hawthorne, mostly because of the principal.
How do you feel about the school where you kids go?

My daughter actually goes to an online public school (Connections Academy) and we really like it. We were going to homeschool but the record keeping seemed a bit overwhelming to me and with Connections they do all of that. Plus since they are a public school, they sent us all of our curriculum and she is assigned a teacher. You can try checking out www.greatschools.com they have parent reviews of all the schools in the county and it's pretty easy to look up all the different schools info.

My son goes to Norton Elementary. he is in kindergarten there, will be in 1st grade next year. My daughter will be in kindergarten there next year. we absolutely love it! they've been great through everything. Ryan's diagnosis with epilepsy/seizures and again with the migraines (as of now). he has missed alot of school due to these things and they have been so helpful and understanding. the principal is great. very hands on with the kids and parents.

St. Patrick's is WONDERFUL for K-5, if your child is not gifted. Due to almost no behavorial problems in the classroom and an aide in each class, learning is taking place all the time. Parent participation is huge. As for public elementary schools, when I subbed in the county, I was VERY impressed with Norton Elementary.
For middle school, we love Westwood. The Cambridge program (an Honors program...also serves the gifted) is super. The teachers are great, they communicate via e-mail whenever contacted, the books are tops, the administration puts up with nothing bad and there are plenty of sports and clubs for the kids. Westwood has a LONG history of excellent with very little teacher turnover. As a certified teacher myself, I can tell you that teacher turnover is one sure sign of the health and character of a school...

Eli has autism and attends Talbot Elem special ed pre-k and we're very happy with it. Not happy to hear about the layoffs, what with overcrowding but there you have it.
He'll be in Kindergarten next year, in the special ed room as he is not ready to mainstream. They are a darn good program and believe me we've been through a few. I don't know what I"m doing with Sophie yet, but I want to homeschool with her.
