Again, another instance of the public school system getting it wrong. I think it is TOTALLY absurd to put a red flag in a kid's PERMANENT school record labeling them a sexual harasser in this instance...a little boy hitting a girl on the butt. Give me a break! That is when you sit a kid down and TALK to them. Now, if there is deviant behavior that is re-occuring, then I understand that. But kids who are as young as 4 years old, give me a break!

It seems like authority is having trouble lately finding a balance between overreaction and ignoring troubling signs! I mean, I'm sure this child had no sexual intentions or implications! How traumatizing it must have been for him when police were called! But then, like the other article that was posted, there are major red flags with abusive/neglectful parents and nothing is done! So frustrating and saddening!

That is EXACTLY what the problem is! There is no balance. Big things are ignored while other things are blown out of proportion. I don't wonder why parents choose to homeschool with stuff like this going on. If it started happening closer to home, I 'd be one of the first to take my kids out of the public school system and teach them at home.

My sister-in-law has the craziest stories from this school year regarding her oldest son, who is in middle school. He has been in trouble for the most absurd things! He is such a good kid too.

And then there was the day he was sick. He asked his teacher to excuse him to the nurse's station and his teacher refused, stating that nobody leaves his class. He told his teacher he was about to vomit, and his teacher still refused. When he finally did end up puking in front of all his classmates? The teacher still made him wait to go to the nurse until after his class let out. His class is an hour and a half long by the way...

His teacher came up with this "policy" because two other students stuffed a toilet one day and created a big mess in the bathroom. So because of those two students, he didn't allow anyone to leave the classroom for any reason.

You would think there are bigger issues out there that the authorities should be dealing with, but yet they seem to focus on these absurd issues!

In this case - I totally agree that the school district is WAY out of line on this. This little one has no idea the implications of what he did. Why should he be labeled for life and if things get worse or he continues to touch girls inappropriately - then obviously - he needs some counseling and some investigative work be done to find out why this is happening!!!!! THere's a MUCH bigger issue here and the symptom is being taken care of but not the problem.
