Does anyone have children that sleep -talk and then gets into an argument with you in their sleep?

I had quite an interested conversation with Tim at 1am....you can read about it in my blog (link below). It was helarious.

I was told by my therapist that people sleeptalk or walk it might mean they had some trauma in thier lives when they were younger. I don't know how true that is, but can be possible.

I'm just curious what parents has experienced this and what might had been done to "treat" it.

I'll have to read your blog.

My kids all have talked or walked in their sleep, but have so far lived very trauma-free lives Smiler

I do have a friend who has very vivid dreams and acts them out. For instance, when his wife was pregnant with their first baby, he had a dream that the baby was there and that he had to get a bottle and feed her. His wife woke up to see him sitting up in bed, pouring a pitcher of water on himself!

LOL-no way!! quite a vivid dream there. sorry, it just hit me funny that he was pouring water on himself. I can see that now.

I know alot of people have night -terrors too. My brother had them and I still have them.

I had a strange "dream" the other night and finally told my therapist about it. I had a dream in the background, but at the same time my mind was shuffling file draws looking for something in the foreground. It was strange. I never had anything like that happen to me in my sleep. CJ was saying that all I've been going through, my brain is working just as hard in my sleep to keep up with my thoughts that is racing. Its strange how our brain works when we are asleep...& when we are awake.

I have been a sleep-talker and sleep-walker for my entire life. my parents have all sorts of crazy stories about me walking and talking late at night as a kid.

And my wife has all sorts of stories about me now. Apparently, my not-so-mild-mannered side comes out when i sleep, and I am prone to profanity-laced tirades. Seriously, I swear viciously for my sleep talk. My wife knows how to calm me down and shut me up, but still, its crazy knowing I do that and have no control over it!

Nate-I'm just curious and you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but have you ever had a sleep study done?

If so, have they said anything about it?
If not, would you consider it? Sometimes they can find what causes it.

Just a thought.

My roommate for 3 years in college had night terrors and walked around and talked while in a dream. It was the most interesting experience to wake up to screaming in the middle of the night or to catch her staring out the peephole at 3 in the morning saying she was looking at something or other.

I have not had a sleep study done, Dee. Not sure how much help it would be, but I would give it a try. As you pointed out earlier, it can be an indication of a childhood trauma... and there WAS a childhood trauma, so I know where the somnumbulant weirdness comes from.

And of course I have no memory of doing it. I thought for years that it was behind me, but it turns out that's just because I was sleeping alone. D'oh!

It's so crazy to me to hear about these sleep talking and walking experiences. I have never really seen it happen before, and as far as I know, I don't do it either. (At least my husband hasn't mentioned it.)

I do know, as I think I've mentioned before, when I was in high school, my mom had a pretty bad dream in which she got mad at my dad. Well, she leaned over in her sleep and punched him right in face! He woke her up to ask her what the heck she was was doing, but she couldn't remember a thing!
