Due to constant sickness and ear infections, my son is having tubes put in his ears and his adenoids removed. Has anyone on here had to go through that before? I'm really just wondering what to expect after the surgery. They have already given me a script for Tylenol w/Codeine for after the surgery, but say that most kids are able to get by on just Tylenol or Motrin. Were your kids in a lot of pain after coming home? How long before you felt they had really bounced back? Thanks for your help!

My bff's little girl just had this surgery a few weeks ago. I'll ask her what to expect and be back with an answer. When is the surgery scheduled for and how old is he?

My #3 niece is on her 4th set of tubes at 9 years old. She has some hearing loss because no one realized she had a hard time hearing until she flunked her hearing test to get into kindergarten. She had learned how to read lips to compenstate for what she coudln't hear so we had no clue. She has regained MOST of her hearing but she may never recover all of it. Tubes have been life (and hearing) savers for many! I can tell you that Niece #3 had her surgery (where they put the tubes in AND scrapped her ear drum at the same time) last summer the morning we were to do a weekend away with them and me. She had surgery at like 9am - was out of the hospital by 12:30 and we were on our way up north by 4pm. She was a little tired that evening but with motrin in her - you would have never guessed she had just had tubes put in. She was up and running the next morning. Younger kids get through it faster from what I've heard.

I have no experience with the adnoids coming out though...

My son (now 9) and my youngest (2) have both had tubes. The surgery only took about 20min, recovery was about 20min and then we went home. No pain meds were needed. My only caution is, due to the drugs they give during the procedure, make sure they have all worn off before you let him walk alone. He will stumble like a drunk man if not. My nephew had his adnoids removed and it was just a simple. He did have a soreness after. Where is it being done at?

We currently live in the midwest with the hopes of moving to Gainesville shortly. The surgery will take place at an outpatient facility owned by the ENT that my son is currently seeing. The facility is also located right next to a hospital.

My son has had 3 sets of tubes and and another surgery where they removed the adenoids and put one tube in left ear. It is harder on you than the child!!! I hated waiting and you are nervous. When really it is quick and easy and pretty painless. They gave my son tylenol all 4 times and he was fine!! You would have never known he even had a surgery. He was up and running and playing soon after. After he slept off the meds that is!!! The first surgery he has he was 2 yrs old. and before the surgery he couldn't hear really anything and then as soon as they done the surgery he kinda woke up in a state of shock all the noise around him scared him to death and the nurse was really rude. I remember I was trying to wash my hands and put on that retarded gown so I could go in and see him in recovery and I heard him crying and her telling him to "stop it and lay down" That sent me over the edge and I completely lost it on her. I in a nasty way explained his situation and the sound was probably scaring the mess out of my baby and she had no right to treat him that way.. That was my worst experience and the problem was only with a RUDE NURSE who quickly learned her place. Easy surgery!! You guys will do great!!

I had a really rude nurse when my DD was born. Funny how that is what I always remember when I think about her birth...funny, but too bad really. That nurse is in my memory for life, and not in a good way.

Me too, I had a really rude nurse when my oldest was born. I said that I needed to push and she said, "YOU HAVE NOT BEEN HERE LONG ENOUGH TO NEED TO PUSH" (4 hrs.) she would not check me. Thank god the nice nurse was there to save me from popping my kid out on the floor. You are right Suzy, that is the thing that I remember most about my first delivery.
