Another study touting the benefits of breastfeeding:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24482257/ I've been nursing my son for 8 months, but this quote seems a little unfair: “Mothers who breast-feed or those who breast-feed longer or most exclusively are different from the mothers who don’t,” Dr. Michael Kramer of McGill University in Montreal and the Montreal Children’s Hospital said in a telephone interview. “They tend to be smarter. They tend to be more invested in their babies. They tend to interact with them more closely. They may be the kind of mothers who read to their kids more, who spend more time with their kids, who play with them more,” added Kramer, who led the study published in the journal Archives of General Psychiatry. Way to make moms who can't or don't breastfeed feel bad! I think the study proves that they need support, and that quote is not supportive. |

I totally agree with you that it doesn't seem fair. Breastfeeding is a very difficult and tiresome task and not all moms and babies can find their "groove". It's offensive that people would think that mothers who don't breastfeed are as invested in their child. I nursed for 7 months so I know how difficult it can be and I would never have a negative thought about a mom that chose (or maybe couldn't) not to nurse.

Wow, just in time for Mother's Day! That is a pretty bold statement to make! My mom bottle fed me and and nursed my two sisters. I feel that she invested maybe even more in me than the other two, especially through my school-age years when she homeschooled me.

I think that's a very presumptuous statement they are making.

You know, I am not surprised this comment came from a man who has never breast fed! Maybe if people were more supportive, a lot of moms would try harder to BF. Actually, I have pushed through my most difficult times with BF'ing and I can definitely say that it was in part, thanks to the super support I rec'd on this site from the other moms.
