I knew this would create a wave of controversy - Dr. Phil's people bailing out one of the girls involved in the Lakeland beating; this after the controversy caused when he went to attempt to help Britney Spears in the hospital. So, what do you think? Is this all about ratings? Is the show crossing ethical lines?

There is no way the Dr. Phil Show should have bailed out the teen. What those teens did was completely inexcusable, no matter why they did it. I would have had no issue with Phil featuring one or more of these students on his show, but posting bail was inappropriate.

I have mixed feelings with the whole Britney situation. She is an adult. She can make her own decisions. If she decided to talk with Phil, who's to say she shouldn't. On the other hand, mentally I think that Britney is still a child. It appears that her parents/mother thrust her into the spot light very early in life and then let her fend for herself emotionally. She's always been the center of attention. She's always had the media chasing after her. So who's to say that she is really mentally capable of making the decision to be thrust yet again back in to the spotlight.

and the article suzy posted in a previous thread said the producer that bailed the teen out was not following show policies. they were counseled on the action and retrained.

Yes, you are right. I should have pointed out that I realized that Dr. Phil himself may have had no knowledge of this incident before it happened. I'm not blaming anyone in particular, just stating that I felt posting bail was inappropriate.

I don't think anybody should have bailed them out. I watched that video and it made me sick to my stomach. Honestly, I don't think I could watch an interview from those kids anyway without being furious.

I have to say...I have lost a lot of respect for Dr. Phil...I saw him when he was on Oprah and it seemed to me that he gave some really good advice. But since he has gotten his own show it seems to have gotten more and more stunts for ratings....I mean the whole Britney thing and now this....and most of his show topics lately are like "your a liar and I'm going to confront you" or exhibitionists...starting to seem more and more Jerry Springer on valium...haha

I also heard that a production assistant actually bailed her out. But he would have had to get the go-ahead from the higher-ups. There is no way he flew to Florida and had the money to bail this girl out without first consulting and getting permission from someone higher up. And it was probably more like they sent him to do it. Not that it was his bright idea. So, I think the show may be placing blame where it doesn't belong.
