I think this is crazy. France just decided to ban TV shows aimed at entertaining children age 3 and under to protect them from the effects of television. (article)

Although I understand the reasons behind this decision, I really don't think it is going to do much good. If a parent is going to be irresponsible and keep his/her child in front of the TV for hours, he/she is just going to turn to movies if no shows are available.

I just feel like parents should be the ones controlling their children's TV time. That said, I don't really see anything wrong with children watching a half-hour or so of TV a day (especially the new educational shows like Dora or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)

I believe we will soon be like France ...over-regulating the lives of individuals by allowing strangers in government to make our deicisons.

There will ALWAYS be bad parents (they have existed since the dawn of time), but removing basic rights from parents (such as the right to raise a child as a parent sees fit) is not a good thing.

Now, the "bad" parents will have their kids watching inappropriate shows vs. children's shows. does not sound very well thought out. I did not read the story though-so perhaps I missed something.
