The feds say they got too much money. The average amount of money families have to repay is $35,000. And some are having to repay up to $150,000. Yikes. That is A LOT of money. Do you think this is a case of victims being victimized by the system? Or is this fair...people need to pay back what has been overpaid?

I think this whole situation is ridiculous. How were these people supposed to know that they received too much money? How were they supposed to know that they were going to be expected to pay a portion or ALL of the money back. Someone screwed up royally and it sounds as if it was someone (a group of someones) processing the applications. If it had been me, I would have been willing to wait a bit for my money if it meant that the figure I received was accurate. If it is found that any of these people lied on their applications to receive additional funds then by all means they should give the overage back. But, it really doesn't sound as if that's what has happened.
