I always thought postpartum had a lot to do with a woman's changing hormones after a baby's birth. I understand that men may get the baby blues, too. But it's got to be more intense for women with the hormones involved and with the change your body goes through right after giving birth and all of that stuff.

I can see where fathers may have problems with depression after the birth of a child. They are also adjusting to the role of fatherhood as well as learning how to care for a child. Any depression should be taken seriously with or without the hormones that woman experience during pregnancy and after birth. I'm not saying that what men go through is the same as what women go through (because it's not) but I do think it's good for it to be noticed that men do go through depression after the birth of a child as well. If we're aware of it we can learn to watch for signs of depression in men as well.
