I initially thought this story was going to be about some mom who left her kid in a car to go shopping or to go to work. But, really, give me a break. I never, ever leave my kids alone in the car but it doesn't sound like she put this kid in harm's way at all. What do you think?

You're right - you gotta be kidding me!!!!
I can't tell you the number of times my brothers and I were left alone - in a RUNNING car in our small town while my mom ran into to grab a few things at the store - mind you a 5 isle big store but still!!! That was BEFORE car seats and such! Sounds like the community officer has never had a child if they thought it would be ok to pull a sleeping child - strapped into a carseat in the back seat of a car out if it for less than 5 minutes even though the parent was within 10 yards???? Holy smokes!!! There were probably some young kids IN the store stealing something and the officer is out there screaming at a mother who DID NOT put her child in danger! That is just so stupid. Think of the time and money being wasted on this case while real criminals are out there ruining people's lives!

Suzy, I had originally thought the same thing when I saw the title....then I read the article. While I would never leave my kiddo in the car alone...I really don't think that she put her child in harm' way at all. I mean she was standing right there and all they were doing was donating money...seems kind of ridiculous to me.

I mean if the cop thought she was doing something wrong, he should have given her a warning. I can't imagine how he thought the child was in danger. It'd be different if he couldn't find the mom, but she was steps away. Yep, another gimme a break!

I just read today that they dropped all the charges against her. While I'm sure it's a relief to them, it's horrible that they had to go through all this in the first place!

I am SO glad to hear that the charges were dropped. Maybe enough moms like us were outraged and the judge got the message.
