Okay now Im sitting here with tears down my face..that is absolutely HORRIBLE. I have a seven year old son and I cant imagine what they are going through. All though I dont allow my 7 year old outside without an adult supervision. I am extremely protective!!

Well, I think that is one of the reasons I do not let my own 7-year-old outside w/o adult supervision -- they do not have the ability to always judge a situation properly.

California 3 boys (7, 5, and 3) |
The poor family! I can't imagine the grief they are facing now. What a tragedy!
I'm too paranoid to even let my 6 1/2 year old ride his bike on the street in front of our house unless I am standing out with him (and it's a quiet street). Marianne |

to answer the question whose fault this is...
I think number 1- the parents. Children at that age or even as teens, they don't know how to make right choices or use good judgement. They will risk a lot- including their lives for the sake of fun. #2- the county/city- knowing there is a community where children live, the county should had done everything possible to protect its citizens from not only making a poor choice to cross the highway but also to keep people that don't belong there out. why is there not a proper crosswalk under or over the highway? I'm not familiar with the area, is there a road or something like it that goes under the highway or that a distant away? I think as a community, they need to get together and approach the city/county and have changes made so that no one else is hurt or killed despite the choices they make...but especially for the children. Its just common sense. I pray that the family will find comfort and that perhaps through this tragedy, something good will come out of it. Unfortunately, when tragedy happens, we as a society have to find lessons and learn from them. Some may learn and some may not. safe hugz! Safe hugz, Dee collegemomscafe.blogspot.com/ |

Mayo Baby boy, due June 14! |
Growing up in a farm community with lots of acreage, I remember playing outside for hours with no one watching my brother and I and we had great parents. Things are just so different today and I'm quickly beginning to realize that I will never be able to give my children the same kind of childhood I had climbing trees and building forts all afternoon, every day.

Yes - the fault will end up on the parents - however - I grew up right on a main highway when I was little. We were allowed to play outside as long and as hard as we wanted. I'm sure my mother checked us occasionally to make sure we weren't playing WWF wrestling with each other but.. We knew that we would end up with the belt across our butts if we went close to that road. We couldn't even go get the mail without one of the parents. We had plenty to do in the back of the house to keep us busy but we knew our boundries and I don't ever remember even thinking about breaking them. The fault lies in the parents but I don't think necessarily for not watching them 100% of the time. Even those of you who claim to be paranoid (and I don't blame you in this world right now) could STILL have something happen to your child. We are not promised the next minute and we really have no control over wild and crazy things happening to our loved ones - however - I think they are at fault for not setting the boundries up and then holding firm to them. Something alot of parents in this country have a really hard time doing anymore!!!!
