If it's on tomorrow night will you be watching? Are you more interested in a Vice Pres debate? What main topic are you looking forward to hearing discussion on?

We'll be watching it Mary. I think we, hubby and I, would be interested in both debates. As far as topics there is allot. Foreign relations, energy and drilling, health insurance, taxes, the war oversees and the big one....terrorism and what we will be doing to protect ourselves!

I will be watching. As far as topics go, I have to believe that the big topic this election is our financial stability. Sure, klmorg is correct about all of the other issues she listed. However, if we fold under the weight of our own financial issues, where does that put us? It's time we start thinking about America again.

Each debate has a set topic. The one tonight (Friday) is on foreign policy, not the economy.
I am so glad that McCain is where he needs to be, especially since the debate has nothing to do with our current economy problems. It's time our polticians start pushing up their shirt sleeves and get in and fix the mess they helped create! No bail out! Financial experts (who are trustworthy) like Dave Ramsey and Susie O say loans and insurance are the way to go, not the taxpayers BUYING OUT the bad debt. More good money after bad is not ever the answer. |

Well Nonny, remember this is the government we are talking about. All they know how to do is throw good money after bad.

YES, the debate is ON for tonight!
Wouldn't it be great if the organizers were able to switch the topic from foreign relations to economic. Anyone against the bail out as it stands now should go to the dave ramsey website; Dave gives his reasons for opposing it, offers his suggestions for correcting the problem and also gives contact e-mail forms for our sentators, the committees, etc. I sent his page Link to the 65 people in my address book and many are busy fowarding it on to their family and friends. The time is NOW to act; the decision may come down as early as tomorrow. |

What about this?
Is the economy so bad and terrorism so scary, that issues like abortion and gun control are taking a back seat? I know people that always voted a certain way in regards to abortion for example, but are now setting aside that conviction because of economic scares. Have the big issues changed your voting habits? |

Mary, for me the big issues have changed a lot in the last few years. Having a family and being a SAHD has really changed my perspectives on many things. I think the freedom to own guns is important. Not because I own a gun, or plan on buying one, but because thats what our founding documents say. It's in the rules, so to speak, so I'm against changing those rules because people have good intentions. You know what they say about good intentions.
And as for the abortion issue (always a hot button) most of the debating comes down to Roe v. Wade, a federal ruling from the Supreme Court. A lot of people don't understand that even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, all that means is that each state gets to decide for itself. It won't outlaw abortion, just return the decision to the states. And based on that, I see voting for or against a candidate solely on that issue is a bit silly. At least for me it is. On the other hand, the rising prices for EVERYTHING scares me. It affects me feeding and caring for my family. All these bail-outs scare me because it will mean an increased tax burden, which also affects caring for my family. Next to these issues, even terrorism is a distant second in terms of importance Quite frankly, I want someone to lead this country in a productive direction. I don't allow myself to be swayed by one individual issue. |

Honestly, I have chosen a candidate that seems to think more along the lines I do. Their answers when asked are more in line with my thinking than the other candidate.
As it is, abortion isn't much of an issue for me. I agree with Nate on that. And as far as most of the rest of the issues go, I don't believe we can properly address them until we get our financials under control. |

The economy & the environment are top of mind for me. These two factors will impact all of us and our children for years to come. Personally, you are welcome to disagree; I think fighting "evil" is a losing battle. I am not certain we can rid the world of evil. If we could, I am not certain that killing will be the cure. That is just my, admittedly, peacenik belief. As many, or more, have died fighting “evil” as who died in 9/11. Therefore, it is hard to convince me that we are proving anything, much less winning that one. The debate will be interesting. I just want a candidate who will fix the mess we are in, or keep it from getting any worse!

I also thought they both did a good job expressing their views and communicating w/o as much double talk/back peddling as we have grown used to. I have made up my mind at this point. The debate did not really make me consider changing candidates. However, did not make me feel GREAT about my candidate either. Next week will be the real nail biter

There has always been evil in the world and there always will be but i'm so glad that my grandfather didn't think fighting the evil empire of hitler a losing battle. and i don't believe fighting terrorism is a losing battle. i don't believe it is a sterotypical battle and it won't be "won" on a specific date like WWII was but if we do not fight it there will be a specific winner and it won't be us.
and i am concerned that leaders of countries that spout hate at the US and call for our destruction will have an open ear from our president if obama is elected. these types of leaders, especially ones who seized power should not even be recognized as leaders, much less be given an audience with our top official. I've done some reading and researching on the facts that john mccain was quoting that obama continued to tell her were not true. guess what, john mccain's facts were right, except one statment where he said ear marks were on the rise when they have been declining. but we do not know what is on the floor under consideration right now. i did not like how obama continued to refer to senator mccain as john while senator mccain respectively called obama senator obama. i wish obama would agree to a full and open debate like we have had in every other election since i was old enough to vote. i don't understand why he gets a free pass on that one. structured debates are not mccain's strong point, he does better in town hall meetings but i would think obama would take advantage of that. |

I agree with softballmom.
I also thought Obama was very disrespectful of McCain during the debate. He would laugh at what he was saying and shake his head and continually interrupt. I was impressed with McCains lack of a reaction to Obamas antics. I was unimpressed however with ABC coverage after the debate as they said McCain was not 'looking' at Obama...of course he wouldn't look at Obama while he was being rude...that would have called for a reaction from McCain which was not what that debate was about. The ABC newscasters critisized McCain for looking at the moderator instead of making allot of eye contact with Obama. I was impressed with McCains quick, and correct, answers concerning foriegn affairs and the war(s)...current and past. Obama seems to be wanting to make everyone happy,(which is impossible) while McCain seems to be interested in running the country, making it safe while doing what can be done to improve our economy too. |

I came across this website, Glassbooth.org that compares your views on various topics with those of the candidates and shows you at the end of the quiz which candidate is most like you and why.
As far as I can tell it's non-partisan. Give it a try if your interested. |

Great link! And I also think that it seems non-partisan.
It said I am most like Bob Barr, which I like because he's the Libertarian candidate, and I fancy myself a libertarian. Of course, I won't VOTE for Bob Barr, because with as much chance as he has of winning I could vote for Toucan Sam. |
