It was incredible. As a former competitive public speaker and judge at the state level...she was incredible. Obama has the charisma and personal appeal and I feel Palin brings it to her camp. She hit hard on every topic, was humorous, sarcastic, and intelligent. I've never before heard of her but I like her.

I agree totally. She presented good old fashioned small town values, and then starting laying into the opponents deftly, with humor and charm. All the while making some very good points. What a smart choice she was.

Yes Yes I saw the whole thing...what a great addition for this party!! She was incredible. And I know this doesn't matter politically but she does have some beautiful children. I don't know if it was planned or not but I also loved the way she took her youngest son as the family came on stage at the end of her speech, she held him so lovingly and protectively. I like her!!

Lew I agree I would like to hear more concrete plans. I think her speech was like that because she is relatively unknown and had to spend time combatting so many rumors. I don't like the idea of drilling and believe this party is very pro research but they are also realistic with us and let us know that something has to be done in the meantime.

2 things I loved: Both her and McCain desire to clean house in government spending and her putting her private jet on eBay is hilarious! Secondly, her mention of Obama's two memoirs but no written bills or laws.

Obams brings charisma to the table and has a good looking family. I think Palin brings this to the other side. The race JUST GOT INTERESTING!

Also the part where her youngest daughter liks her hand and smooths the baby's hair...so adorable!

I think she is so refreshing, a real person, like us. But coming from Alaska, she has dealt the oil/energy crisis first hand. she took on big oil and won. she supports drilling now because it is there and will help immediately (i know, everyone says it will take 10 years for us to feel it, but remember a few weeks ago how just talking about drilling brought down the futures market). but she is also a proponent of exhausting every other measure and the whole time protecting our land.

she's the whole thing, or as my dh would say all that AND a bag of chips. and i am simply loving that the worst thing they can dig up about her is right in front of everyone, her daughter is pregnant. I'm busy but i'm certainly not running an entire state. if we criticise her for her daughter's actions, what would that say about me if i face the same situation in the near future?

she is pro life, lives it, just doesn't talk about it. she is a protector of our right to bear arms. she is fiscally conservative. she thrives on challenging the establishment. honestly, what more could we ask for. yes, she could be more versed in foreign affairs but that one issue will come with time. if she were lacking in other areas, this would be a bigger deal for me but as VP, her responsibilities will be domestic for the most part. and i can't wait to see her sitting beside nancy pelosi! i can just picture the look on the speaker's face now...

as far as her jabs at obama, nothing she said was false and she had such a funny way of delivering them! my grandfather would first flip out at the thought of a woman on the ticket but after about five minutes of watching her, he would be wanting to make her one of his famous root beer floats!

Well he definetly is not the speaker that Palin is...or Obama for that matter. But I did like the speech. He seemed a little more compassionate than the usual McCain. I think he is now ready to fight to the finish and I don't think he is going to let us forget that he and Palin have MUCH more experience tham Obama and Biden. I felt more of a 'connection' with the actual people of America last night for the first time from McCain. I always felt before he was all country and had almost put the country before the people that make up the country. I think he did well overall...and I still love Palin Big Grin

John McCain reminded me that he wants to do what is right for Americans, not necessarily what is politically right according to the "global community". John McCain really, really loves this country and is not only willing to but has fought for it.

with all of the unresolved issues with Obama's past, his church, his political affiliations and then there is his wife, i just could not ever completely trust him with the keys to the nation.

I just love this quote from Palin, "To any critics who say a woman can't think and work and carry a baby at the same time, I’d just like to escort that Neanderthal back to the cave,” the Anchorage Daily News quoted Palin saying last March.
I agree it will be awhile before all women have this opportunity but I am happy for the ones that have it now.

In the abstract (not talking about specific laws she could enact while in office or things like that) I think that having a working mother in the White House can have nothing but a beneficial influence on society. She has a chance here to smash the political glass ceiling, and not only is she a woman doing it, but a family woman. So having her up there in front of the nation will serve as a good role model for men and women alike.

and her position will also make her a great example for little girls -- now they will believe that they can aspire to such goals.

That article really amazes me -- I've read many like them, and I'm quite frankly shocked that people are looking for so many reasons to keep a person out of office because of her gender.

As a former, very active member of N.O.W.(Tampa area) for a decade, I find it so hypocritical and disgusting that the same people who supposedly want to empower women only do so if that woman is a liberal.

Palin is as independent, tough, bright and capable as any politician and you KNOW that N.O.W. and many others (who are complaining the loudest) would champion her if she were a Democrat (especially a pro-abortion democrat). Have we reduced women to one issue...they're only valued if they support one cause? I surely hope not.

Palin appears to be one of us working joes. She's middle class (dad was a teacher, mom was a secretary), she married her high school sweatheart who's a commercial fisherman, she has children and appears to love them very much, she has a disabled child that she chose not to abort, her family has normal problems (in her case a pregnant teen), she cares about the issues affecting families (and individuals) and she worked against both Dems AND Repubs who were bringing fiscal ruin (and corruption) to her state of Alaska.

I have a "Palin Power" sticker on my van now. I have to admit that the former N.0.W. member in me would REALLY REALLY REALLY like to see a female in the White House! Call me sexist, but it would be a nice accomplishment for our daughters (and sons) to witness.

I would be more impressed if everyone debated the platform she has communicated to fix the many issues we are facing. However, from what I can tell, she is not even allowed to speak. She did read a compelling and well written speech and was convincing in her delivery. However, how will she respond with a few hardball questions? That remains to be seen. I certainly am not sold that she is the most qualified person for the job by a long shot-I need more evidence than she is a nice person and a good Mom w/ experience as a Mayor. Anyone of us on this website may qualify for that Smiler.

LEW- So well said! i have been saying this for days! While I can appreciate wanting a woman in the White House, I just don't think someone (anyone--man or woman) who has so little political experience should be the choice. I'm sure she is a wonderful mother BUT she has been in office less than 2 years and mayor of a small Alaskan town...I mean seriously...I didn't like it when my daughter had a teacher with only 2 years of experience let alone someone to help run my country....this is all my opinion of course...I just think that everyone needs to look past the whole gender thing and look at her political stance and her plans for the country. I do find it interesting though that McCain was attacking Obama's lack of experience and then he picks someone with way less....I'm just really curious as to why he picked her....I am sure there are plenty of qualified female candidates out there...I just wish I knew the thought process there....
