Bishop -- part of the reason they picked her is BECAUSE OF HER INEXPERIENCE!

Because she is still more experienced than Obama, so any attacks on her experience have the result of reflecting back on Obama.

Also, the Repubs learned from Obama that if someone has never done anything, then there is not much dirt to dig up on them.

This is pure politics, and has virtually nothing to do with ideas or solving problems.

I think that's where I have a problem with it though...I'm not naive enough to believe much of anything a politician says while running for office but it doesn't mean that I don't want to hear something....all I hear about her is that she is a mom and has 5 kids and one has down syndrome...well, I'm sure all of that makes for an interesting home life BUT what is going to do in office? What are her ideas as far as the country goes? I know many people are making a big deal about McCain's age and at first I thought it was rather silly...but when you really get down to it, it's not. Let's be real...the guy is 72! He would be in office for 4 years...76...we have to think of his possible health issues when deciding to put him and his running mate in office. Her problem solving/international relations (if she has any) skills, and her ideas should be what she is talking about...so she can downplay what everyone else is saying. If she is truly qualified, then have her come out and say this is what I have done and what I am capable of doing.
And LEW--I read that article as well...it was really interesting and probably one of the most honest articles I have read about any politician.

I may be naive in all of this but I don't see how Palin can be called so inexperienced compared to Obama. He was a (relatively silent)senator from 1997 until 2004..(he is now a junior senator). Palin while governor helped to pass a landmark ethics reform bill and used veto power to cut budget spending. Obama launched his political career in the home of 1960's and 70's political terrorist Bill Ayers( look him up here: Link

and still refers to him as a part of mainstream democratic Chicago. Obama also shows his true colors (ignore the pun as none was intended) in his association with the Rev Wright. Yes I know he disassociated with him for the campaign but that was just "for the campaign". And while I can understand pro-choice even though I am 100% pro-life, I do not understand how no matter how pro-choice you are you could, as Obama did, be the ONLY Illinois senator to speak out against the 'Born Alive Infant Protection Act', which required medical care be given to infants surviving abortions who are born alive.

Okay so don't want to be bashing anyone...I just don't want one person to be made to look soooo much 'cleaner' than the other. EVERYONE in politics has done things they should not have. I just try to look at the 'morals' behind the act and when I look at it that way Obama scares me. He has underlying motives and seems to shimmy his way clean through his 'celebrity' status and support.

I like Palin and though McCain is old so was Ronald Reagan....

(Hope I didn't offend anyone)

Here is a link to the ABC transcripts. I think this has made my decision for me quite honestly. I was finding myself not happy with most of what she said. I won't get into it all but it's just my opinion.

I would also like to point out that the choice of Palin serves another purpose...

Now we are so busy throwing (and dodging) the race card and the gender card that everyone is sufficiently distracted from the issues. As far as I'm concerned, both parties need to be focused on one issue -- getting our economy back on track. And instead we get a dog and pony show to make us forget about it for a couple of months.

SO True! I know as a family we are barely making it and I want them (any of them) to focus on getting our country back on track! Stop worrying about what every other country is doing...while I know we have to keep an eye on the world, we need to refocus on what is going on in our own country. School funding is being cut, people are getting laid off, and we need to take better care of our soldiers once they get home. They are saying that the suicide rate among soldiers is the highest it's ever been....they put their lives on the line for us and we need to make a better effort to make sure they get everything they need when they are over there and when they get home....
Ok...off my soapbox now! Sorry for the rant Smiler

Thanks Sarah! You've read my mind. Honestly, I was excited when McCain nominated a woman for VP, but that camp has given me 0 reason to change my mind about who I'm voting for. I've had a bit longer to at least hear what Obama has to say. Now that isn't to say that his camp is doing any better job of elaborating on their plans though. At this point I'm not happy with either side for sweeping the real issues under the rug.

Honestly, it has pushed more in the direction of not voting for them....the thing that scared me....a war with Russia! Seriously? While I understand that we are a part of NATO and are considered a "world power", I think it is beyond time for us to start taking care of our own country first. The situation between Russia and Georgia isn't good obviously, but our budget and military are stretched beyond their means already. I was reading about Obama's idea of helping kids with college payments if they sign on to do 100 hours of community service...these are the ideas I am interested in hearing...how we can, as a country, start putting things back together.

I will admit I'm rather sick of us fighting everyone else's battles when no one wants to fight ours. I don't think that's what they were saying but I base my vote on more of the standard moral issues like abortion. I wish I didn't have to as that would allow me more freedom to examine the issues, but I feel I do. Also, I'm afraid of all the new tas increases Obama has proposed.

I had been holding back from posting about this until I saw the entire 20/20 that airs tonight but I changed my mind. I too am tired of all the 'courting and acting'. The issues are the issues. I like Charles Gibson...I have for years since he was on GMA...but I did NOT like the way he interviewed Sarah Palin. He just seemed angry with her and like he was trying to make her look bad. He is usually so charming but to her he seemed almost smug. I think she answered as well as she could to the questions he posed to her. If any of you watched the interview that Bill O'Reilly from FOXNEWS did with OBama it was much the same thing...

Why try so hard to bash everyone?? Lets just do the interview with out all the sarcasism and curtness...

I'll post more thoughts after the 20/20 tonight.

i for one am insulted by mccain's choice of palin.. just because i am a woman doesn't mean that i vote with my vagina... palin is opposite everything that i believe in... i hope that women don't just vote for her because of some false sense of sisterhood... she has no idea about foreign policy and that prom queen hairstyle is a turn off

Actually, the only tax increases that Obama has suggested is for people who make MORE than 250,000/year...it actually gives the rest of us a break. McCain plan was just analyzed (I'm sure Obama's will be as well it just hasn't been printed yet....and the reviewer said it was nearly impossible for it to financially work.
