That's not a misspelling ladies. At 25 I'm not ready for a mid-life crisis but I have a huge problem and could use some help, advice, and sympathy. I'm having my first baby due in 4 weeks and am nervous enough as it is. You see I chose to deliver at N. Fla with a midwife who is attentive but under a doctor should there be any complications. This is the way I want to deliver, however, the doctor who came highly recommended has up and retired suddenly and the midwife I love and feel safe and comfortable with (and have been seeing for the past 8 months!) was not able to get practicing under another doctor so has "released" all her patients!!! I want a midwife at N. Fla still and am coming down to the wire here--any suggestions or great experiences/recommendations please throw them out there!

My sister-in-law just delivered at North Fl. the name of her mid wife was Jane I don't remember her last name but she has an accent. She was awesome. I was there for the whole delivery and she hardly ever left the room. She did not try and sway my sister-in-law one way or another and the coolest part was the she let my brother help in the delivery. I will try to get her last name for you. Good Luck!!
Jane Houston. She is THE BEST!!!!! AnnMarie is also in with Jane and she is wonderful as well. They are on the North Florida Women's Physician's website. I would highly recommend either one of them. I actually used them for my pregnancy, but I ended up having preeclampsia and having to deliver early. My baby was delivered by Dr. Million and she is wonderful also. Good Luck!

...so glad to have people here talking about Jane. I am a L&D R.N., four children, ages 21, 19, 15, and 13. First was at home, second at "The Birth Center", third and fourth at STH UF, where I was working at the time. I worked at Shands UF for 7 yrs, North Florida for almost 3. Jane (she's Scottish, ask her about "Haggis" LOL)is one of the most qualified, experienced midwives available in the area. I worked with her numerous times, and would trust her with my own life. I really can't say good enough things about the woman. If anyone sees her soon, please tell her Beth V. says "Hey!" and that Ken (my current husband and I met in L&D @ North Florida, he was an O.R. Tech at the time, I'm sure she will remember him) is a Police Officer now and about to be deployed to Iraq for a second time (:< as a Medic. Pray for us, please! "JANE! Keep up the awesome work, we all love you!" XOXO Beth
I'm so excited about this response! It sounds like this may be one of those disasters that actually works out in your favor in the long run (isn't God funny like that). They don't list the midwives on the N. Fl website--only the doctors. Does anyone know which doctor she practices under? I'm going to call her first thing in the morning. Thank you all sooooo much--I'm starting to de-stress already.

RE: The Pics of Midwives: So funny! I have personally met and/or worked with almost all of these women! Ann Marie I don't really know, but I have heard nothing but good things about her. Jane, of course, Mary Ann (saw her numerous times before I had my daughter, Maya, now 19, who was born in under an hour --squish, yer out, kid), and who could forget Kristin? Kristin can handle anything, anywhere. She knows every O.B. Doc in G'ville and will give any of them the what-for if need be. These are the "Good Hands Ladies" if anyone is. YAY! Have a great birth, Mayo!
Let us know if you are able to get Jane. She sounds cool. This situation makes me kind of sad. I'm sad to see that she's not practicing anymore b/c she delivered me. But I also feel so bad for you having to go through this! Really, what bad timing.
I know the schedule there rotates, two doctors and one midwife everyday. Beyond that I'm not sure. I'm seeing doctor Werner myself (I'm high risk) and love her.
I have not seen Jane personally but I have heard VERY good things about her from people who have. My mid-wife was Cyndi Vista (that's not who were talking about being gone is it?)and she was wonderful.
Blessing in disguise indeed!!! I went to the North Florida Women's Physicians Midwifery office today myself and they were aware of the situation with my former midwife and doctor and welcomed me with open arms. I met the infamous Jane and was scheduled an appointment with Kristen the same day!!! I was thrilled! Her no-nonsense personality got us down to business in no time and I left there feeling relieved, informed, and at peace. There are 5 midwives and they rotate so you don't know who you will deliver with per say but they are all so competent and friendly that you know you are in great hands regardless. I was having concerns with my former midwife as I felt she was too laid back for me and I felt unimformed so...I'm thrilled and can't thank you all enough for the help you have given me. THANK YOU!!!
