So my daughter had her 9 month check up today. I walked into the clinic and as I signed in there was a letter next to the clipboard. It said....We will be closing as of Nov.14 2008, here are the names of some local pediatricians....

Now I understand that the economy is making it hard on many businesses. However, were is the common curtsy? I had no time to look into finding a new pediatrician. They did provide 4 numbers of local clinics but as a mom I would have liked to look into a recommend pediatrician, not just pick out the first name that sounded the best. They never even called to let me know anything. And because Tessa's last check up was a couple of months ago, I had no clue.

Not to mention, as I sat in front of the office lady waiting to ask questions she would not even look at me and kept answering the phone only to slam them down grunting and growning about being short staffed. So I called my husband and asked him if he had heard of any of the clinics listed...he did so I made an apointment with a new peditrion office for a week from today. I then went home and about 15 min later they called me and wanted to know why I just left and did not say anything. I told the lady that no one would even talk to me nor did I know if they were still taking patients today. I was also confused because normaly the day before they call to confurm an apointment and I did not get that call. It really bothered me.....am I the only one that thinks they should have sent out letters or phonecalls.

I should have learned. this is not the first time they have done something like that. They moved clinics and only posted a letter on the door. So when Tessa was sick and I had to take her in....I was at the wrong office and had to find the new one with my daughter screaming to help me focus.

Well I had to vent...thanks for listening.

I am in a homeschool group locally and one of the other moms must go to the same peds as you....she said they gave no advance notice to anyone! She was beyond angry....we love our peds office (Healthy Steps) and I know there had been a post on here a while back asking for recommendations. I cannot believe that they would close without notice to anyone!

Wow! That is ridiculous that they did not send some kind of notification. We go to Alliance Pediatrics and see Dr. Mas. She is great! They are located in the office complex behind Hunters Crossing Publix on 43rd Street. Hope you find a new one soon that YOU like, and that has better customer service.

We also use Healthy Steps & LOVE Dr Ana & all the staff! If they're one of your options I highly recommend them!

I'm so sorry as that must be frustrating, especially when you have a baby. My kids go to Alliance Pediatrics, too, and I love it there. The staff is always so friendly and I am always able to get appointments quickly (sometimes within a couple of hours!) We always see Dr. Massias and she is great with my boys. I hope you find a new pediatrician that you can trust.

It sounds like it might be a blessing in disguise that they've closed their doors. I have NEVER heard of a Dr's office that won't send out a letter when they relocate or shut down completely. That is beyond ridiculous. I plan on sending my kids to the clinic behind Hunter's Crossing as well (Dr. Mas's office) when they need it. They came highly recommended by my husband's cousin. She's very particular.

Ha. We go to Healthy Steps as well -- I wonder if any of us moms have ever run into each other at the peds office and not known it. I would add my recommendations to the ones you've already got here.

Good luck in your search!

So sad! Customer service is def dead as a norm. I am currently on the phone with my cell phone people...well the automated service actually since you can never just make a call and get a person anymore.

I know that just a few weeks before I was scheduled to deliver my baby my midwife's doctor retired and she quit practicing. She called me and left a message saying she could not see me anymore and would be sending a letter. That's it. No recomendation, no reason, nothing. Then she would never answer her cell phone again which she gives out. It was this site that saved me and sent me to Jane at N. FL. Midwives and THANK GOD! I got such better care. I'm sure your situation is a blessing in disguise too.

I'm sure you are so frustrated cjrock! I would be too! I think it's absolutely awful the office didn't nofity you to let you know it was closing. Your pediatrician is someone you should be able to rely on to help you, your baby and your family. The doctors and office really dropped the ball on this one.

I hope you are able to find a wonderful doctor. It seems like there sure are a lot of them here in Gainesville. We go to UF Pediatrics and see Dr. Mellott. She is wonderful!

I must also recommend Alliance pediatrics, Dr. Mas is fantastic. She will always make the time for your child. I am a Nurse Practitioner and familiar with how rushed providers can be. I don't believe you would find that behavior there. Good luck--we all need to vent every now and then!

I would be PO'd too! We also go to UF Pediatrics (at Haile) and see Dr. Kelly. She is great, but I don't think she is taking new patients (and leaving soon on Maternity leave). But Dr. Backus is great too and I DO think she is taking new patients. Good luck finding another pediatrician for your little ones.

Healthy Steps hands down!! :-)

Dr. Anna is wonderful & her staff has been with her for many years. You will always be greeted with a smile while there & a friendly voice over the phone whenever you call or talk to them... I believe a great office staff says a ton about the Dr. My husband is a practitioner as well & even since we have moved out of town - I still make the 45 min drive to see Dr. Anna for my 2yo & newborn. :-)
