This is one of those things that I've wondered about recently...now I have the answer!

http://talk.gainesvillemoms.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/5351061586

As it turns out, there's a very simple explanation, and it has nothing to do with the church, a vast religious conspiracy or even a complex marketing scheme on the part of candy-makers and egg farmers.

It's the moon.

I too read that it was about the moon. Although what I read made me even more confused. I still couldn't explain it to my kids if they asked. I tried the link but it takes me back to the forums...

Does anyone else besides me, though, prefer Easter in April? It's warmer, it gives something to the month (besides the tax deadline), something to kind of "tide us over" between St. Paddy's day and basketball in March, and Mother's Day and the long Memorial Day weekend in May. I dunno, just hate it when my kids are shivering while hunting Easter eggs.

Hi TripleAMom,
Nice to meet you! I definitely prefer Easter in April. Easter in March doesn't really feel like Easter to me, so I'm totally with you on this one!

Yes, my mental image of Spring and Easter...soft, warm pastels, blooming flowers, cuddly bunnies and baby chicks....just doesn't jive with frost on the windshield, having to cover the plants, and still wearing the cable-knit sweaters we wore in our family Christmas pictures!

So, how was everyone's early Easter? As you know, I spent mine in the hospital so it didn't really feel like Easter at all...

Hey, speaking of Easter, does anyone have any suggestions for an awesome community egg hunt next year? The one we went to this weekend, my little guy got nothing (for the third year in a row). Any ideas?

He got NOTHING?! Ugh. I hate when that happens because I have had that happen a few times when my older kids were little. I think us Gainesville Moms should do an egg hunt. I am all for it!

Oh, yeah, sign me up! I don't really want to name the place we went, but it was 1) way too few eggs for the turn-out they have (and always have) and 2) too spread out, as in new walkers WAY over this way, older toddlers WAY over that way, K-2nd graders right over here, etc.etc. you get my drift. And when you have more than 1 child, well, you can't be in more than 1 section at a time, so someone has to do without. Plus, there are always some older kids that just gorilla their way through the little kids section, and the poor little ones just can't keep up. Where are the parents of these steamrollers, I ask?!?

Yes, I'm all for a GVL Moms egg hunt next year. Each family can bring enough eggs for their own kids to hunt, and that way we'll all know our little ones have enough. How 'bout it, moms?

As you know, I am all for it. And maybe this is a good opportunity to bring up other get-togethers with Gainesville moms and the kids. Maybe a picnic over the summer time? I'm up for any ideas you guys haveSmiler

heck, yeah, anything by the water...picnic, food, families, maybe some games for the kids...all the good stuff. How 'bout a Mother's Day get together..maybe not that exact weekend, but around that time? And then, of course, the 4th of July...everything is always so rowdy and so expensive when you try to go to the beach during that week....a very -family oriented thing would be right up our alley! I'm game, and will do what I can to help organize. Any other thoughts out there?

These are some great ideas. I am going to start another thread on this. I'm afraid some might miss it under "Early Easter..."
