Here's a celebrity blog post about the issue with a picture.

Right or wrong, it's a beautiful, natural photo!

I think it's an awesome way of promoting breast feeding. And, as the article points out, most likely proceeds will go to charity. I think it's wonderful.

What a great photo and article! I think so anyway!
I hate how breastfeeding seems so taboo and I was affected by this trend when I was breastfeeding my son. I was too insecure about it. I'm not saying flaunt it whenever you can but if you gotta do it then it shouldn't be something to feel strange about.
Thanks for sharing-

I thought it was a nice picture. I have one of me bfeeding Emma. You can't see me or my breast that much, but my mom took it because E just reached up with her little hand while I was helping her latch on and she grabbed my pinkie. I just couldn't move my hand since it was so darn cute. She was a day old or so.

I have to say that I have mixed feelings on bfeeding in public. I have done it. But I kept myself covered at all times. It really wasn't a big deal. But I have been out at a restaurant for lunch and seen a woman just whip it out right there in the middle of the place. No shyness. Bared all. I thought that was weird.

I have to say the coolest place for bfeeding while out has to be the Oaks mall. They have a little room dedicated to that and it's really roomy enough for a stroller and other manner of baby paraphernalia that you need to take with you.

It just infuriates me that the public says nothing about seeing her in a bikini or her breasts bulging out of a push up dress on the red carpet, but heaven forbid she show a PART of her breast feeding her baby! That is just crazy! I too brstfd when I have to in public but modestly with a blanket and I think it's a beautiful thing and love the pic...very sweet.

P.S. She has twins so it would be hard to snap a pic of her at anytime during the day/night where she is NOT brstfdng!

I have pictures of me breastfeeding my daughter when she was born. I think they are very special, the breastfeeding made me feel more connected to her. She developed a milk protein allergy and had to be switched to Nutramigen formula but at least for the first few weeks, I was her sole source of "food" and I loved that. I agree that it's silly for breastfeeding to be so taboo....it's nature!

I haven't seen the Angelina Jolie picture yet but I think it's neat that a magazine had the guts to put it on the cover. Yea!

I heard she did it to promote breatsfeeding. Many people want to do everything the celebs do. If that is what it takes to get people behind breastfeeding, I am all for it!

I think the picture is beautiful and I can't wait to see the whole article and other pics too. Now just to find a place that sells 'W' magazine in my little town!

I have pictures like that as well. Its sad that no matter what celeb. do people have something to say.(or any average person for that matter) I dont get why people dont talk about/worry themselves over bigger issues like world peace, hunger, and crime.?.? Breastfeed your baby or bottle feed them...people should be happy that theres one more child who isnt starving and might make it to grow old...

The first thing that comes to my mind is wow. I think it is awesome that Angelina is able to breastfeed not one but two babies even though I'm sure her life is a bit crazy! I think the picture is beautiful, and I don't see why anyone would be opposed to it.

I also have pictures of my daughter breastfeeding, and they are so sweet to me.

Now, when I was in public, I wouldn't just show my chest to everyone. I would use a blanket or something to have a bit of privacy or go into a nursing room if one was available. I know some women are OK with letting it all hang out in public, but I just wasn't too comfortable with that. Just me though.

What I find unusual is that if she were holding a gun, or a knife, or punching someone in the face and there was a picture of THAT, there would be no controversy at all.

But she is feeding her child the way that God and Mother Nature intended, and for some reason THAT is the picture that raises eyebrows.

The world is a crazy place sometimes.

so true Nate. Stacy I actually saw a woman in the mall the other day full boob out and it made me a bit angry. I would never show my stuff..I could understand if it came out of the blanket while nursing cause your child thought it would be funny to do so...had that happen but people should cover up while in public...though very natural we need not forget that they are for your child and not the entire mall to see Wink

Nate, well put. It is amazing how backward “civilization” has made us in so many ways! People are more afraid to see a nursing baby (a truly beautiful and natural event) than so many truly horrific things that we volunteer to see in the name of entertainment. All the power to Angelina!

It really is crazy how some people seem so put off by breastfeeding. I do think everyone is entitled to decided if they want to breastfeed or bottle feed - different things work best for different moms - but when did breastfeeding become so taboo? It was all people did back in the day!
