I thought this story was so sad. After an 8-month investigation, the Humane Society of the United States accused Petland of selling dogs bred under awful conditions. Some pregnant dogs were kept in wire cages that were stacked high and smelled like urine. The flooring of the cages was so large that the paws of the dogs would fall through. Frowner

I saw this! You can bet that I won't be setting foot in a Petland anytime soon!

sickening...

I have never heard of Petland stores. Petco and Petsmart are the only two I frequent.

Sad thing is, they weren't the first to do it or to get caught and they won't be the last.

Pound Puppies ROCK!! (even tho I am a cat person and would not likely have a dog, if I did, it would be a resue)

So sad to read about this. I hate to hear of animals being neglected or mistreated.

That is what we did to find out Macy dog. We got her through the Georgia Bassett Hound Rescue. This is one of the best ways to get a great dog! There are also rescues for every breed. They even send someone out to your home before they will let you get a dog. They want to make sure they are going to a good home.

I hope they start cracking down on all of those pet stores, that sell dogs. I used to work for a veterinarian and there was one nearby and their dogs were always sick or had something wrong with them.
Fortunately, Gainesville seems to advocate pet rescue pretty well.
Oh By the way this Saturday Animal Services is having an open house with discounted adoption fees for dogs or cats
