There is an article out there about a meeting held last night, that there is a great need for a children's hospital for this area. Something I thought what AGH was for or what I was told what AGH was, the Shands AGH.

Personally, I too think there is a need for a children's hospital. It does need to be seperated from the main hospital and keep all the pediatric specialists there...etc...etc....

I think there is going to be a petition to the UF president and hospital administrator. Wondering what other mom's from this area thinks or feels about it.

My son is no longer a ped-but in the adolesent-but I have a love for children and want the very best for them. I beleive UF&Shands can do this without causing any more medical mistakes.

what is your thought?

There was a child that died at Shands due to a mistake awhile back. His family is trying to have a "self standing" childrens hospital built here in Gainesville. I think that the family has said the would match up 1 million $$ in funding to start the project. As far as AGH goes, I think that they have moved almost everything back to big Shands. I know that that family was going to start a petition but I have not heard if they started it yet. Personaly I support the idea and think that it would be great for our area!!

I think a childrens hospital would be absolutely aswome! K had surgery at Shands when she was 6 months old and was in pediatric ICU for 2 days and 1 night. The care and support that we received from all staff was nothing but the best but I was kind of surprised when we went in that the pediatric ICU and the senior ICU were combined. Where K's room was situated she had a child on one side of her and an elderly person on the other. Amazingly the elderly were much louder than the children. The care was exceptional though, couldn't have asked for any better. A childrens hospital I believe would be a wonderful thing!!!

I've had a son in Shands as well, and they offer great care. But everyone behind the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation is right, it could be better. A stand-alone children's hospital would focus solely on the needs of kids -- and we deserve a place like that.
