I have been seeing these around stores more and more. I know that sexy costumes are the trend for many adults, but I can't believe they are being marketed to children. Just the other day I saw a sexy little pirate costume for a young girl! Fish net tights and everything! Click here to see a msnbc.com video that discusess how prevelant sexy kid costumes are coming.
What do you think about this new trend? When are children old enough to wear sexy costumes? I don't think I'd ever buy my daughter one!
There is no way I would ever buy something like that for my daughter. I don't want her to get the idea that girls are sex symbols. Plus I wouldn't want her to grow up too quickly and have to deal with issues too young. But that is just my take.
That's disgusting. That is why Nate is very, very anti-Bratz too. I've seen lots of sexy teen ones and I don't really approve of that either. It reminds me of Mean Girls when the teens are excited about Halloween cause they get to wear their lingerie and just put on a set of mouse ears.
Dito to both gatormommy and kristin! I'm not a big fan of Bratz either! I most definitely don't want my daughter wearing anything like that! It's crazy! And what about the parents who let their children wear them? I don't care how much my child begged, there is no way I would give in on something like that!!
Well cotumes is bad enough since they are once a year but what about some of the regular clothes?? I don't buy shorts for Macy because the majority of them look like hoochie-mama shorts and let her diaper (when she was still in diapers!) hang out and even now, let her undies show. She actually doesn't like them either as my family bought her some and I tried them on her, to be fair, and she said they were too short and she didn't want to wear them.
Back on topic (sorry, I get on a rant) I agree with you guys that letting little kids dress like that is just a horribly bad idea. Nevermind the tackiness of it, Halloween is one of the favorite "working" days for child predators because the kids are easily accessible and already in a disguise. I don't mean to ruin it for anyone but think about it, what other time of year are kids just going to march right up to the door and ring the bell? Add to that dressing them in "sexy" costumes and its just enough to make you ill.
I know the days will come when Macy will want to do this type of thing, the media makes sure of that. I am not looking forward to it but by that time maybe we will have won the lottery and own our own private island or at least community where she will be safe because we control who gets in! lol
This really is so sad! And to actually label a kids/young teens costume sexy?? Who's bright idea was that uh? I completely agree with regards to the Bratz dolls as well. But you know very well that parents and grandparents buy these things for their children or there wouldn't be a market.
When? As long as they can still be called children the answer is NEVER! I'm even sick of seeing adults with so little creativity they use the holiday as an excuse to go out in public trampy. If I see one more Playboy bunny...!!!
The sexy costumes are stupid. I saw a Jasmine costume with a cropped top and a hip hugger bottom with slits all the way up the sides! I don't even like to get my kids 2-piece bathing suits!!
We have one bratz doll. It was a gift 2 years ago for Hannah and it is still in the package (it was a limited edition, i'm thinking of waiting another couple years and selling it). My nickname for them is hooker Barbie.
Of course, I am totally against these outfits for young girls. It sends a mixed message. We do not want predators looking at our children and then we send them out into a scary world dressed to draw the wrong kind of attention. Kids love attention and they do not even know yet, what the wrong kind of attention is! As parents, our duty is to protect and shelter the little ones we have been lucky enough to be trusted to raise. I could go on and on, but will not as I know I am preaching to the choir
