2 girls (3 and a half, and 9 months) |
From when Savannah was newborn, I've been playing her music. I love music, and wanted her to share that passion. I made her mix CDs of what I called "baby safe" music. Some classic rock (Beatles, Santana, etc) and some classic Motown soul, plus some old fashioned bluegrass.
I was hoping to avoid having to listen to Raffi and the Wiggles. it was partially successful. Right now she LOVES old Fleetwood Mac music. How about you all? Do your kids like music, and if so what is their favorite? |

Yes, yes, yes. We (unfortunately) went through our Wiggles stage. But we avoided the Doodlebops at all cost.
I too made a CD of all my favorites that I thought would be appropriate for the boys. But I think I appreciated it more than they did, so we've found a middle ground: There are tons of singers/songwriters of former punk/rock fame that are recording kids albums now that they've entered parenthood. Our favorite right now is The Terrible Twos. Dan Zanes isn't too bad either. |

WE did the same. My kiddos seem to like everything. Noggin does a pretty good job of playing some fun stuff...I like the Dirty Sock Funtime Band! And Hot Peas and Butter..haha
But we listen to They Might Be Giants and the Bosstones a lot too..funny thing..Logan (who is 3) was listening to old TMBG and it was the Istanbul song and he looks at me and says..uh oh mommy, it's the Turks..heehee...well...funny if you know the song....Caeli is 7 now and stuck on anything Disney channel (yep..Hannah Montana, Jonas Bros) ACK! I actually watched the Camp Rock movie with her...the lip-syncing was terrible! |

My daughter loves music that kids sing...so we have alot of Fisher Price little people cd's. She listens to them as she is falling asleep at night.
As for adult music we listen to alot of Eagles and Fleetwood Mac and I still like John Denver too. I am partial to them all... My dad was a pilot for a private airline company out of south Florida when I was growing up and he flew the Eagles on their tour for The Long Run, Stevie Nicks for The Wild Heart and John Denver on three world tours. He flew quite a few more groups too..but those are the three I went on with him that influenced me the most by generally being pretty cool people too. |

Oh Bishop96, my 11-year-old niece was in town this weekend and I learned everything there is to know about the Jonas Brothers. I was on teen boy band overload by the time the weekend was over. But it was very cool seeing her so interested in something.

we have always made music a part of our lives. it was always such a big part of my life growing up, even though dear old dad could not sign to save his soul...road trips were the best, he had us captive...
but i've always played my music around the kids, i keep it clean as a general rule anyway. but they have been exposed to every style you can imagine. and now, my teenager's favorite singer is still merle haggard! but she can rock with the best of them and knows most of the words to all the oldies (Can't believe I call bon jovi old). she can slow it down pretty good with some classical piano favorites too. her friends make fun of her all the time! but when they are playing trivia games, she is always picked first for her acute musical knowledge! my grammy loves it that her great granddaughter knows the words to some of the oldest hymns you can imagine. it makes her smile! |

I have been a Tom Petty fan my entire life, and that's what was playing when my daughter was born. Now, when she's fussy, I can play Tom Petty and she calms down. Amazing!
Also, I'm a band director, so when I was pregnant, she heard a LOT of band music and now she absolutely LOVES listening to classical music, and even more so going to band concerts! |

NW Gainesville 3 boys (1-3 y/o and 2 -1y/o's) and a step-mom and step-grandma, too! |
Hands down in our family, the top two: Jimmy Buffett and Bob Marley....my kids love music...we have instruments in our home all the time, trumpet, piano, guitar, harmonica, drums. The boys' big brother (my stepson) plays in a band. It's a "family tradition". We have "dance hour" a lot of nights at our house, blast either reggae, Motown, old disco or heavy metal from back in my day, and just go crazy...helps wear them out before bedtime, too!

Gainesville!! Affective, 08-04! 3 boys! Zak (5), Co0per (2), Oliver (9m) |
At a young age, I knew I didnt want my son to be one of those Barney or Teletubbie kids.
Our oldest is 5. While mommy and daddy DID work at Walt Disney, and he has had his fair share of meeting the Do0dle Bops and Johnny and the Sprites.. Kids love what you love. He loves Elvis, the Beatles, Cake, the White Stripes (New, he doesnt like the old stuff),Ani DiFranco (I did that, I listened to her a lot), Dan Zanes, AC/DC, he loves his daddy's band (the Sevilles). We embrace the Ipod around here. Shuffle is a blessing. He has a colorful taste in music. I feel blessed that its not the Jonah Brothers or some equally annoying no talent, here today- gone today band. Here is to some hip, well rounded children! Hopefully, they wont think American Idol is co0l!! Hahahahaha |
