I know a couple people have been mentioning using fish oil lately, and I actually just came across an article about it. The article talks about how giving children fish oil can help them with attention and focus and can also be used to treat mood disorders and developmental problems.

However, the article did stress how there isn't much research on fish oil. (Click here to read the full article.)

Does anyone here use it or give it to their childen? What have you heard about it?

I take it because its supposed to be rich in Omega 3 fatty acides which are good for the heart. I don't give them to my kid cause heck, I can't even get her to take a Flinstone Vitamin.

Hubby takes it, and I don't know, maybe it's just the brand he takes, but it STINKS! I can't even describe what it smells like...oddly enough, it does not smell like fish. It's almost a rubbery smell. I don't think I could swallow it. And with my luck, if I did take it, my breath and pores would reek of the smell all the live-long day.

Anyone else who takes it ever notice the smell?

Wow, that doesn't not sound very pleasant. It reminds me of my grandma who used to take garlic pills for some health reason, I'm not sure what. But anyways, she always REEKED like garlic. lol

Yes I just started taking garlic pills twice a day and I know my breath must smell since I keep burping yucky garlic. However, it does ward off skin mites (which I had) and thrush (which I also had--a lot).

Mary - Do they actually taste like garlic when you take them?It sounds like garlic pills have a lot of benefits like the fish oil.

My husband and I take fish oil pills and we give them to our children as well. I did a lot of research before doing this so we didn't go in to it blindly.

Cod liver fish oil is good to take during the winter because of the extra vitamin A and D it offers. Because we have less sun exposure during that time, it's an excellent supplement. On the down side there's such a thing as too much vitamin A so you must check the levels and monitor your intake.

For now we're taking a fish oil pill without the additional vitamins. It's loaded with EPA and DHA. The research I've done states you should have twice the EPA as DHA. Some might recognize the term DHA. It's an added ingredient in most baby formulas now.

You'll also want to consider where you make your purchase. Not all fish oil is created equal. Molecular distillation is probably best. The particular brand we use gets it's supply from the waters of Norway.
