Brooke Shields is the latest, joining Madonna, Jamie Lee Curtis, Maria Shriver ... the list goes on. Has anyone every read any these celebrity mom- or dad-penned books?

My family thinks Paul Reiser and Billy Crystal make terrible movies. As a gag gift, my sisters give the same Billy Crystal movie to me every holiday just rewrapped. So of course when I was expecting, they gave me Paul Reiser's Baby Hood and BIlly Crystal's, "I already know I love you." and I acutally liked them. Billy Crystals children's book is written from the perspective of a grandparent to his unborn grandchild. It's sweet.

The vast majority of celebs who have books on the market are not writing them themselves. And it's a shame that it has become more difficult for everyday people to get published due to the volume of material being "written" by celebs.

I was told that if one is having difficulty getting published, DO submit shorter writings to magazines and journals. Keep a list of your credits for they will eventually help you when you are in need of a publisher for a children's book.

I submitted my "book" to 27 publishers and received two "Yes, You Go Girl!" personal responses, but unfortunately both publishers were no longer publishing children's books! One even assured me that he was confident my "book" was already picked up before I received his response. How wrong he was!

Due to having a young child in the house who demanded attention, I set my desire to become an author on the back burner, where it still resides today. Instead, I write speeches for church and do public speaking. However, eventually I will self-publish, as my aunt's good friend did (and who found some success).

If you want to get published, remember to submit shorter writings to as many magaizines/journals as possible. You NEED to have your name become known if you hope to be picked up by a larger publishing house (especially now that celebs are flooding the market). Good luck!

McInnesmom, I kind of suspected that was the case. I mean, just having a celebrity's name attached to a project makes it much easier to market -- that is whether the product is good or not. My biggest thing is why do animated films need to pay these big actors/actresses to do the voices, kids have no idea who these people are.

Definitely keep writing though if that is your dream. Good luck!

The celebrities have taken over the voice work on animated movies too. I hate that. I was watching those bonus discs that come with the Disney movies the other day. There is no way the woman who voice Cruella Deville would get hired today. Its always Angelina Jolie now adays.

I have not read them. I did hear an excerpt read from one that Cosby wrote, on NPR, a few years ago..do not recall the name. It sounded really good..about flying fish, one was different than the rest of the flock? Has anyone read it? It did sound good. I would lOVE to write a children's book. My kids love books. I bought them the classics that I loved as a kid. My favorite of all time is Where the Wild Things Are. My son knows every word! We like to go to garage sales to buy books..this is one of their fav things to do!
