Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (17) son (8) girl (5) |
What does everyone think of doing a toy swap every once in a while, like every month or 2 months, something like that.
I know my kids have toys that always end up at the bottom of the toy box, never to be played with again. What if we were to organize a toy swap? One where we all bring toys that our kids no longer play with and trade for things they will play with. It can be broken down into age levels, and categories. i.e. toys, books, vhs tapes, dvds, games, etc. Only gently used items will be accepted and if it is a game or puzzle, all pieces must be included. Games can have a few pieces missing as long as you can still play. Such as a card or two missing from candy land. (Of course not those character cards! LOL) And in order to be fair, you take the same amount as you bring. If you bring 5 items to trade, you take 5, etc. What do y'all think? Anyone want to do this? Tammy |

Okay, I will add this to the list of events when I make up the calendar, which will be up within a few days under Announcements.

Sounds Great. I tend to weed out toys often and keep the level of toys down, but we always have things to contribute.

If there are some people who wish to just donate the toys instead, we can always find out where they would be most used at, like perhaps dr's offices, the children's wing at Shands, the Ronald McDonald House, etc.

A swap and/or toy drive sounds great! My boys all share a bedroom so their toys can sometimes take over. Even before we moved we got rid of a bunch, but they still have a lot they don't play with! They pretty much only play with Legos and trains.

Maybe we can do both.
everyone (who goes) bring 10 toys, and get 5 toys while there...the rest in a box for donations... we could do it every few months and pick a new place to donate each time. |

That sounds good to me freyja. The best of both that will hopefully be good for everyone.
We could also have a field trip with the kids to take the toys for donations, and let the kids go around and give out the toys. I remember doing this when I was a girl scout. We made some things for the kids at the Ronald McDonald house and then we got to go hand out the stuff ourselves to the other kids. Tammy |
