2, boy (14 yrs), girl (2 years) |
I know that a lot of you breastfeed/fed. Did you go to a bottle ever or just wean straight off of the breast? My daughter has a bottle and I know that she should have stopped at a year, but she gets one before nap and one before she goes to bed at night. I don't put her to bed with it. I hold her and give it to her. That is part of our cuddle time. She will be 2 in July, and I know that it is time. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

I am SO glad you posted this. We are going through this EXACT same dilemma. He gets a bottle at nap time and bed time. The timing is really bad with the new baby. But he will be 2 in July as well, and it is time!! Someone help us

She is taking a sippy during the day?
As far as breastfeeding, both boys weaned themselves. A good sippy to transition from the night/nap time bottle is the soft tip nuby (sp) they sell at Walmart. They rock. Now are you just trying to wean her from taking any any liquids before going to sleep or just the bottle. If you are trying to wean from liquids then I am of absolute no help. Both J and C got chocolate milk for the longest time until I just got too lazy to make it anymore. Hey, gotta keep in the dentist busy with the chocolate milk before bed |

I agree about those cups..they are awesome...well that was until my son decided it would be fun to shove his finger through the top and rip the hole! Ack! That's too funny about the chocolate milk...mine just turned 3 and he still wants chocolate milk before bed..haha |

Hey..LAhas2boys, are trying to keep us employed with the chocolate milk at night?
The problem is, I want her to still get some milk intake, but she won't drink milk out of a cup. I want the bottle gone all together. I think that it was fairly easy with my son, but she is way more strong willed! |

Definitely try the nuby cup. http://www.babybungalow.com/nubapr.html The Nuby no spill gripper cup with soft silicone spout. They sell them at walmart for about 97cents. |

Definitely try the Nuby cup. You can get two of the for like 5 something and they are awesome!!! My daughter turned one last saturday and she has been competely bottle free for 3 weeks now!!!! We bought the Nuby cups and gave her the bottle if she wanted it but it only got water put in it. We put milk in the cup. So if she wanted the milk she had to take the cup. She quickly threw the bottle away. Some babies are easier than others but the Nuby cup is a lifesavor!!! Good luck!!!

Mine still takes a bottle for my pumped breast milk but uses a regular sippy for anything else, I guess we haven't tried to make the change yet but I would say a nuby is the way to go. One of my friends used it to transition from bottle to cup when she transitioned to the over 1 class at daycare.
How many of us has kids born in July? my son will be 2 July 26... |

I'll try the Nuby. I tried it once before and she wouldn't take milk in it. I guess the trick is to put water in the bottle and milk in the Nuby. My daughter loves water though, so I don't know if that will work. It is worth a try.
And my daughter's b-day is July 6th. |

That's exactly what I did. I stopped putting milk in the bottle and only gave her a bottle when she went to sleep. I had to find a sippy that worked for her, (she likes Dora so I got her a Dora cup) and fortunately, her seeing big sister drink out of one made her want a sippy(eventually). She has now gone 2 days without a bottle. Even though she asks for one, I started giving her a sippy two days ago instead. She fusses for a minute or two, but then decides the sippy will do and has fallen asleep with her new sippy cup. Good luck!

Oh yeah, we tried the Nuby, but of course my daughter has to be different and refused to drink out of it. So we got her the Munchkin Dora sippy (with handles) and the Avent sippy cups (the ones you can use with their bottles if you want and she'll actually drink out of either one of those).

Another Nuby fan! It made the transition to regular sippy cups great for my first two (I was able to breastfeed my 3rd until he was 1 and refused to anymore, and went straight to sippy cups).

Hawthorne 3 wonderful kids! step-son (16) son (8) girl (5) |
I started transitioning my to a sippy cup at around 9 months, by 13 months he was bottle free.
My daughter never took a bottle. We tried in the beginning, so I could have a break, but she refused. She had a preference for the breast. So we went straight to sippys when she was about 5-6 months with juices, water, etc. Tammy Architect major @SFCC, working my butt off to get into UF. |

Jetermom--
We'll be trying the Nuby together. Keep me posted on how it works out for you, and I'll do the same! <a href="http://lilypie.com"><img src="http://b1.lilypie.com/NzoMm7.png" alt="Lilypie 1st Birthday Ticker" border="0" /></a> |

I just gave her the Nuby with milk before bed. She kind of looked at me funny, but drank most of her milk. She did ask for her "boggle." My MIL has baby pigs, which my daughter loves to go see, so I told her that the baby piggies needed her "boggle." I don't know if that will continue to work, but it did for tonight. She is sound asleep.
