Awww, totally wish I could be a part of this, but I doubt I will be around for it. How early was your little girl?

She was born at 33 weeks. Early enough to scare us, but not as early as so many others. She spent 16 days in Special Care Nursery. They are all wonderful there. They took exceptional care of her as well as us (the scared parents). Now she is a very healthy and active 20 month old.
This will be my second year in the walk. I walked with a friend last year because my husband was working and it goes by really fast when you have someone to walk with. It is such a great cause and a great time. It is 8.6 miles, but they have vans that come by all the time if you need a ride and there are many "spirit stations" that you can stop and rest or get a lift back. |

She is super adorable and I love your page! So, if you don't mind me asking, why did you go so early? Did you know it was going to happen? She must have been teensy! The other day, my daughter and I were in the checkout lane at Publix and we saw the March of Dime ads with the preemie diapers. They were so tiny! She couldn't believe it was a real diaper.

She was 4 lbs 14 oz. My husband was 9lbs 3oz when he was born, so we were scared that she was going to be huge if I went full term. And from her birth weight at only 33 weeks, she probably would have been.
I went in for a routine exam on July 5 about 11am. We had suspected that I may be getting preeclampsia and sure enough my blood pressure was high and I had protein in my urine. So my midwife wanted me to go downstairs to L&D to be monitored. She decided to check my cervix first and surprise to us all, I was about 3 cm dilated. So off we go. They hook me up to monitors, I was having contractions. They decided to give me meds to stop contractions, lower my blood pressure and see what happens. My blood pressure didn't really budge, my contractions didn't slow down much, so I was admitted. They then decided to do an ultrasound just to see where the baby's head was and guess what? It was way up high. She was breach. At that point the midwife had called in the OB and she took over. They gave me a shot of steroids to help the baby's lungs because they were going to try to hold off delivering as long as possible, at least 24 hours. Hopefully it would be long enough for the steroid to help the lungs. My husband is a basket case by this point. At 1am the OB came in to check before she went to rest, but I was now 5cm dilated, bloody show and no slowing down. At 2:24am, Zoe was born via emergency C-Section. Sorry for the long story. Now she is a healthy, active little girl. She has a stubborn streak a mile long and I guess we should have known that when she fought her way out into this world. I am ready to have another one, but my 14 year old son is not too happy about that idea. I guess we will wait and see. |

Wow. What a story. And what a happy ending. Was your 14 year old scared by the last birth which came so early? Do you think that is why he doesn't want another sibling? I can imagine how tiny she must have been. It must have been a lot for him to deal with. How did he deal with it?

Yes, I think that it has something to do with the fact that he doesn't want me to have another baby. They let him "sneak" into the recovery room after my c-section, and that was pretty scary for him. He almost fainted. I bounced back very fast, but he saw me at the worst time. He shouldn't have seen me then, but he was very insistant on making sure thatI was o.k. He would not take anyone's word for it.
He is also at the age that the world should revolve around him, so I am sure that is part of it too. He may think that another baby would mean less money to spend on him. He will be 16 in less than two years. So all we hear about is cars, cars, cars! I must add that he also saw her just after birth and she wrapped her tiny fingers around his pinky finger. He fell in love with her immediately. He is her protector. If she gets in trouble for doing something (writing on walls with crayons, throwing tantrums, pulling the dog by the ears) he is quick to her defense. "Mom, she is just a baby. It's o.k. She doesn't know better." He takes pride in that role! I feel bad for any boyfriend that she may ever bring home. She better hope that big brother lives far away. |

I think that is adorable! I wish I would have had a big bro like that growing up. Maybe I would have stayed out of trouble

Oh I am warming up my walking shoes. I just hope that they have a cot ready for me when I get finished. HA! HA! My husband gets to walk with me this year, so we will have great fun I'm sure. Wish you could be there, but you have an adorable new baby to play with. Congratulations again! Babies are wonderful. I have a plaque that my husband's grandmother gave us that reads, "Babies are such a nice way to start people." It is so true.

Well I hope the walk goes well. Maybe I can join in on the fun next year. It is a yearly event, right? And I love that quote. I once read it in an Anne Geddes book and it is so true.
