We have an older car that someone was holding for us in their yard. Last we talked to them which was 4 weeks ago we told them we would be to get it in the next few weeks. We had to get 4 tires and an ignition switch. Now we go over there to tell them we will be to get it next week and the guy has had it towed but conveniently he doesn't know where it is.. He tells us to check back with him in a few days. Is this legal to get rid of someone elses vehicle when you okayed it to be there?? What do you do in a situation like this???

I would call GPD, and ask them if this is legal. They should be able to tell you if you are able to file some kind of report. No, it doesn't sound right that your car just disappeared...sounds fishy to me.

GPD says they can have it towed if it is on their private property and they no longer want it there...seems to me like they should have to at least notify the owner of the vehicle??

Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do unless he tells you where it is....then if it's in a tow company's yard...you will have to pay them to get it back. We had someone do this to us...he was originally going to buy the car from us, so we left it with him. When we hadn't heard from him we went to see what was up and he had, had the car towed and we had to pay the tow company 50 bucks to get it back. My brothers are cops so I asked them about it and they said unless we had it in writing that it was allowed to be on his property there was nothing we could do because it was all verbal Frowner

I just talked to an officer and he said that the guy can have it towed anytime off his property b/c it is his property. However, by law he has to provide the owner if asked the location of the car or who exactly towed it away. IF he sold the car he can be arrested for Grand theft auto or if he is unwilling to provide info as to who towed it/location. He did tell me not to talk to this guy any more but to report it to the police and let them get the information from him and go from there

Really, how awful that this happened. Sorry to hear.
But I am wondering like everyone else, where is the car? Could this man be lying, and maybe he sold it or something like that? I hope not.
Good luck and let us know what happens at the end.

This situation does sound fishy! Even if he couldn't tell you where the car was towed, he should at least be able to tell you who towed it. And why did he ask you to check back in a few days? Why can't he get answers to your questions NOW? I would definitely leave this in the hands of the police and let them find out where your car is.

I hope you get your car back soon!
