My daughter will be 12 months on the 19th and I am not sure when I should start whole milk...I have just been waiting for her 1 year well child check but people tell me I should introduce it to her now?? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I think my daughter was just a couple of days shy her first birthday when we started the whole milk. Our doctor told us that we could start before that, but we still had formula in the pantry. We used that up and then switched.

We did the same with all of them..just around 12 months. I actually started with the last one a few weeks before his first birthday...

Same here. I waited until my children were both around 1 year old, give or take a few days. I believe that it is something that the pediatrician and I discussed at the 9 month well visit.

I waited till I went to my daughters check up but that was 3 day after she turned 1.

I was told around my son's 9 month check up that as long as he was tolerating other milk products he should be fine and I could start introducing whole milk whenever I wanted.
The same for my daughter...although she didn't want to touch it till she was over a year....then I had to mix it with "mommy" milk and wean her into it. Tammy Architect major @SFCC, working my butt off to get into UF. |

my daughter did not tolerate formula at all. in nine months we had tried every formula on the market at the time and she still spit up everything. my mother was at home with my daughter one day while i was working. i could have sworn that i had a whole can of formula in the pantry but it was nowhere to be found. she gave her some warm whole milk in her bottle before her nap. guess what she did not throw up, she slept soundly and she never took formula again. this was at the ripe old age of 10 months.
since this worked for her, i did the same for my son. they both stayed on whole milk until they were about 4 and then we switched to 2% at the peds recommendation. got milk?!? |

I waited until 1 w/ my son. However, he hated it and would not drink it. He was breastfed until 1 and never had formula. Since he hated milk, my ped said to try formula in place of milk. He LOVED it and drank it until he was 2.5 in place of milk. He drank Earth's Best organice formula for toddlers (sold at Mother Earth). My DD hated formula and milk. She was breastfed until 1 also and did /does not drink any milk/formula now. My ped said it is fine as she gets dairy through cheese, yogurt etc. She eats a really well balanced diet too though.

I have a question and it might be odd. Ever since my daughter started whole milk she has different stool. It is now all pellets. It doesn't seem to bother her at all but I was wondering if anyone had this issue and if so what you did. I keep thinking it is the milk. Besides milk she eat yogurt. That is basically all she will eat at daycare. She eats table food at home but refuses to eat it there.
I am going to ask my her doctor on her 15 month check up but does anyone have any advice before I go to the doctor. |

It seems like I remember that happening with my kids, but I don't remember it being an issue. I would just give more water to drink and more fruits/veggies.
When I worked in a daycare at one time, there were kids in there with the same thing. I could be wrong, but I think it's common....the "what goes in, much come out" theory. Tammy Architect major @SFCC, working my butt off to get into UF. |

My only suggestion is to try and use organic whenever possible. I'm allergic to whole milk and I've heard that soy isn't great for kids or pregnant moms due to the amount of estrogen in soy. I've also heard of infant girls actually starting their periods at age 2 due to drinking a lot of whole milk (not organic) and this happened to a friend of mine's sister so I know it's possible even if it is rare. Then again I know we were raised on regular milk and did just fine so I may be turning into a preppy gainesville firs-time-mom and making a big to-do over nothing

I have read the same studies about hormones in the milk. We buy organic milk also...I figure the peace of mind is worth the extra cost.
