Need some advice.I am recently divoced and my son lives with me. He knows what the potty is for and that he peepee and poopoo on the potty but dosent tell me he has to go. He will go when i make him but he sits on his seat. Anyone have any tips on how to get him to pee standing up? I tried the fruit loops, and the food coloring but it dosent really get him intrested. How can i do this with his dad not here to show him?

I have heard about the fruit loops thing too. (Put fruit loops or cheerios in the toilet and have them aim, for those who didn't know.) And many toilet training books talk about having baby boy watch dad or brother so they know to stand up, so you are in an interesting situation.

What I have heard is that at this age, sitting is totally fine; and to wait until he gets older to teach him to stand. That way, he really understands what you are explaining to him.

However, I think this would be a good topic to ask the experts about. I am going to track down someone down for you and get some expert advice about this one. Be on the look-out for it.

Thanks!!! His dad and I disagree on this. He (his dad) dosen't think he should wear "big boy"pants untill he call tell you when he needs to go. So therefor wont help me in trying to get him potty trained standing up.

I was a single mom when my son was potty training too. He finished up around 3. When we were inside, he always sat down. I never thought about teaching him to go standing. No rush, it will happen when it happnes. Not sure where Dalton and his mom live, but we live in the country. Once it got warm enough, my son would run around outside in his big boy pants and "go" whenever he got the urge. I guess this taught him to stand up and go. He was so funny, he like going outside so much, he was happy to play outside all afternoon! I got yardword done and he learned to potty like a man!

My daughter of course was mortified. But he was never caught with his big boy pants down, our property was big enough that we always know when someone is coming close...

I have a potty tip.....Bisselll Spot lifter is a life saver, and a carpet saver. Any one have any tips for me with a boy?

I never worried about my son standing up to pee. I figured he would do it when he wanted or caught onto the concept. He started doing it around 5 when he started school.
As far as tips with a boy....remember your sense of humor!! LOL They will do the darnest things and sometimes you have to let them know that they can't do it, and then send to them to their rooms just so you can laugh about it.
My son is 7.5 now and the things he thinks about and how is thinks is defiantly all boy! I can't say it gets better, since in my experience it has been the same, just he has though of more as he gets older.

I've got nothing really interesting to add other than. . .KIDS CRACK ME UP! I'm just scared crazy to have a boy. :/ YIKES, but by the sounds of it you ladies have it all under control so I'm sure I would to. Oh and thanks Suzy for point out the fruit loops and cheerio's thing, I would have never known.
