Well, the baby was having a hard time keeping his temp up in the hospital and they actually kept us a day longer because of it. Everything looked okay when we checked out, but this morning, his temp was low again. They had drawn blood work and cultures at the hospital, and then our pediatrician wanted more blood work this morning. They called this afternoon to request that we bring baby back in for MORE blood work. I must tell you that this is a little nerve wracking...

We will have the results back tomorrow. They wanted more blood work to check the Thyroid. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers!

He seems to be doing much better today. One of the tests came back negative and the other, we will find out today. I think that sometimes babies thrive better when they get home. So, I am hoping that is the case...thanks for checking!

So the update is that he still is not maintaining a normal temp. We have to take him for more blood work tomorrow. He has gained weight (8 pounds, 12 ounces today) and is eating well. Is not fussy. The doc says she has no idea why he would not be maintaining his temp. I am sure he will be fine, but he's so little and I feel so protective over him, this just makes me want to cry.

Maybe they should just take as much blood as they need so you don't have to keep going back and watching them prick your baby over and over again! Sheesh! I would ask if they checked their thermometer but I guess it would be pretty obvious when all the kids who come in have low temps. I wonder what it could be? I'll be praying for you and baby. It's always hard when they are so little!

I know that this must be really stressing you and your husband out, but stay strong. One week after I had my youngest baby, I was sitting at home, (just me and her)when the phone rang. It was someone from the hospital calling to tell me that there was something wrong with some of her blood work, I needed to take her to a speicalist to have more blood work done. It scared me to death!! Just stay positive and cuddle with your newborn. I will keep you and yours in my prayers!

Sounds odd that even the docs are puzzling over it. But you, Momma, take heart in the fact that he's gaining weight, not fussy, and you know your baby and will know when and if something is truly wrong...so have a good cry to cleanse your system (it's not a good day for me if I don't have a "good" cry...over something, LOL) and then just pick him up and cuddle, snuggle and love, love, love him to pieces! And all the GVL Moms will be pulling for you both!

they continue to take blood because they want to see if the results differ, for better or worse.

trust me, they hate drawing blood from infants...if there was any way to avoid it they would.

you all are in our prayers...

and i have to say high five to dad for taking a newborn to have blood drawn. i'm amazed!

I hope there will be no more sticking of your little guy for awhile. 5 times seems to be a little much but when it comes to children and making sure they are OK it has to be done. And good job on hubby taking him!

Good news. ALL of the labs are negative. So, maybe he just naturally has a lower core body temp, I dunno, but everything else is fine...he eats like a little piggy, feels warm, not fussy. So, all is good for now. We are just keeping an eye on his temp.
